the golden compass

it is about a Young girl who is given a aletheometur it tells the truth. when her friend Roger goes missing she goes on a journey to find him leading her on a a a amazing adventure. it is based on a book the book and movie awesome. its got some really great actors in it. i really like movies based on books.

I enjoyed this movie also. It left me with a lot of questions, though and a strong desire to read the books, which I haven't done yet. Has anyone read the books?

I read the 1st in the trilogy. I thought it was good. I really enjoyed the movie. ;)

I read the book, it was much better then the movie. I started reading the second one and something happened and I can't remember where I put it down.

We just watched the movie, yesterday. Last year the school, she went to asked us to not allow the children see it. I went along with that. We pulled her out in Feb. found unschooling and radical unschooling in Sept. So yesterday I said yes! She loved the movie and was happy. She asked lots of questions.

Well, my husband listened to the books on cd in his car. :) Then he saw the movie. I haven't read the books yet.

We watched the movie, but it didn't seem that great. I started reading the first book with my kids, but they thought it was scary so we stopped.

I went to see this movie in the theaters with my older daughter. The newspapers and other reviews made such a big deal about how scary it was, that I didn't take my younger daughter. Afterwards I wish I had taken her. The Harry Potter movies were scarier than The Golden Compass!

All that hype about it was really unfair to the books and the movie. The movie was good, but it wasn't nearly as wonderful as the books. We listened to all of them on cd. It has a full cast reading and acting, it's very well done! A lot of the ideas are really geared towards the slightly older set. Chamille was about 9/10 when we started this series.

What was the reason they gave for this? Just curious.

Sorry that I didn't answer. They asked us not to let the children see it as it is anti religious. At the time Faith was going to a Catholic school, and they felt it was directly related to them. We aren't Catholic and I remember it being a big deal. I did read the book and felt it was more about finding sexuality and it being sinful.

I never think a movie represents a movie well. The only true depiction I remember was silence of the lambs.

I absolutely loved reading Philip Pullmans 'Dark Materials' trilogy from which the Golden Compass comes. I also enjoyed the film and look forward to watching it again one day with DD.
