Radical Unschoolers Network

the network for radical unschooling families

Hi everyone,
I am an unschooling mom of four (4 to 21) and an independent German filmmaker (I live in MA), and am planning a movie called "Not another brick in the wall", part of which I would like to film at the L&L Conference. It is basically about the unschooling movement within Germany(which is tiny) and the US, our personal unschooling journey, and the wish to understand and break the wall of German Compulsory Schooling.
I would love to have lots of people participate, and especially like young unschoolers to share their stories and experiences.
I am also still looking for someone who has professional videography experience, and possibly someone I could hire for the days of the conference. Would love to collaborate with anyone from an unschooling family who has experience in documentary filmmaking.
I still need more time looking for funding etc. but even though the time is REALLY short I would still like to film at the conference.
Any thought, questions, ideas etc. are appreciated.

Hi Mara!

My husband is German and while my daughter is not even 3 yet so I'm not technically unschooling yet, I would love to talk to you!

Hi Bea,
thanks so much for your reply. I do speak German to my children (well, the little ones anyway). My oldest stepchild took some German in college and says he understands a lot we are saying. I am sure both my stepsons understand more than I know.
Lucian (7 tomorrow) always replies in German and even though I am his only German source he is getting better at it all the time. My 4 y.o. mostly speaks English with a few German words thrown in, very funny. Since speech is a bit harder for him, he just takes the words in each language that are easiest, combined with a few he made up, and so has his own language. My husband does not speak German, except for some animal names and a few swear words he picks up from old movies - .
I wanted to reply to you privately, but can't figure out how to do this yet. Is your husband speaking German to your daughter? Are you coming to the conference?

Hi Kass,
I really enjoyed meeting you too! Right now I am looking into finding someone to teach me the editing program, will call around Mac stores further away from me, as no one in my area is certified. Then I am looking at cameras on Ebay. Found one used one at a good price - hoping it won't go up so much. I need to do some additional filming around here to tie it all together. I will let you know of the progress.
