I have an envelope of seeds ready to head your way, just need an address. Included are cabbage, leeks, cauliflower, which should do well to start in a cold frame (I think). And then lots to start for the new season like tomatoes, herbs, squash. There are seeds I've had for a while so some may not germinate, but most are things I am used to planting that do not grow well here in my FL garden. My email is wenwe@eathlink.net. We'll work out a trade.

We tried to ship a big tumbleweed to New Jersey years back, and it was going to cost $60 to ship it. One small enough to go by UPS would still be their biggest possible box. Bummer. They're light but can't be folded or compressed... And if people drive one in a car, it takes as much room as a whole person, and it can't be touched. If you put it in a box, you can't see anymore. Hmmm.... How to get a tumbleweed to Florida?

Heather, I have a tumbleweed for you. It's not huge, but it's not bad. Because it came into my yard on its own and because I have an Amazon box it fits in, it's yours if you send me your address.

I am reading Raising Our Children, Raising Ourselves. I am looking for more books like this. I also liked Parenting a Free Child, Living Joyfully with Children, and The Unprocessed Child. Does anyone have any suggestions for more reading material? (I have already read Khon and many Holt)
Thanks -
Melissa

Connection Parenting by Pam Leo is good, and Siblings Without Rivalry by Faber and Mazlish is good. Raising Ophelia and Real Boys were two books that opened my eyes alot. For books, I like Paperback Bookswap as a resource (you join and post your unwanted books and when people request them you mail them and get a credit that you can use to request someone elses book).

I put pics of it on my page if people want to see. We really like it!

Hi all fellow unschoolers. I have an idea. what if we all open our homes to traveling unschool families where we could then have a time of encouragement and fellowship. Also could be an excellent way to see the Country since we are from all over.:0)

I think it would work out best if our unschoolers were same sex and about the same ages, so they could have unschool sleepovers, playgames, similiar interests so on and so forth... while the parents could exchange thoughts and ideas.

Example....the girls might be into crocheting and beading and dolls and jumprope etc...

while the young men might be into matchbox cars and star wars and making go carts..etc....

I'm not saying that my 2 little girls just do "girly"things...they take Karate,go horseback riding, play basketball and soccer and love to fish and put together BIG lego projects. i just think on the whole they may have more in common,
because we have 4 daughters and only one son.....we do not have many boy toys left .......beings that Ben is 21 now.

but anyway we live in Pa. South east, Pa. Rich in History with philly being only 30 minutes from our home. So if any unschooler wnats to tour Philly or see the Brandywine valley...They could stay with us and when we go to florida every winter, We could make stops all along the east coast and see what other unschoolers are up to and join in. What do you all think?????? Starting an unschool travel network?

Sorry this is not spelled or grammatically correct, or capitalized properly as I did it in a hurry on my way out the door....just wanted to get my thought down on paper! :0)

I hope this is right,... I got the blog carnival wrong ... so I hope this works. I wonder if anyone would like to participate in a rock trade. Basically, you just go outside and pick up a rock, identify it if possible and send it to us, we'll send one back to you from NE TN in USA. As more people participate, more varieties of rocks can go out. If you send a rock out, you will get one or more back. You can get as fancy as you want and actually find something specific from your area you want to share. We did this a few years ago and someone sent me 3 herkimer diamonds from New York, of which I got to share 2 to other people. Some people like to find fossils, unusual sand, shark's teeth or petrified wood and someone once sent a few geodes that we got to bust open - like magic to find those crystals inside! So, if you want to participate you can email me your address at jesschittum@gmail.com and I'll send you my address. I will send you rocks from NE TN and you send me something from your area. This is something that sort of grows and I will try to post pics either here if possible or at my blog highland-trails.blogspot.com So, we all know this group rocks, now send some!

One biggie I miss living here in Florida....rocks! It's mostly all sand/shells. I loved going into the creek behind my house(where i grew up)and looking for rocks to break open! I wanted to become a geologist. I still love crystals, minerals, rocks. I was so used to going outside and seeing rocks...quartz....all over the ground and it's so weird that I can't reach down and pick one up.
I get my "rock" thrills buying "river"rocks from the store. I might want to take ya up on your offer but what would i send in return? hmm..there is a native rock here I think...coquina or something that sounds like that. Let me research a little.
I do have some millions of years old shark teeth from the cooper river but i want to hang on to them. What kind of rocks are in Tenn?

We have some beautiful rocks with the Appalachian mountains near us. Some with lots of red colors from the iron, some that look sprinkled by glitter, but what I find most around our home is a white crystal, I suppose some kind of quartz that is just pretty. Send shells! We only get snail shells here, so sea shells are a treat. Jess
