Caribbean, an English-speaking or French-speaking island. It's where my heart is happiest.
Actually, I love where we live now. I'd choose a different house, in a different neighborhood, but Albuquerque is absolutely where I am most at home. I cannot imagine living without a view of the Sandia Mountains, and the Rio Grande nearby.
We would have homes/places in several locations. A place in San Francisco, for when we want to be in a big city. Late summer and early fall in Ann Arbor, Michigan for the fall foliage and smaller town feel, and our home in Tucson.
We are not sure, that is why part of our plan is becoming a FOTR an travelling the country for a few years to find a place that feels like home. Can not wait to stop by many unschooler's communities and get a feel for each area!! So anxious to get started!
At the moment I want to live everywere so we are trvelling fulltime till who knows when. If I had to choose a place right now I would have to say the carribean. Can never get enough of the ocean. Love the sand between my toes.
I've lived in many places all over the world of wildly varying cultures so I have a little bit of perspective on what is available out there.

I like where I am now because we have some land and privacy, our own water and fish and garden.

I do not care for certain of my neighbors who have caused serious troubles.

I also have grave concerns about the political situation in the US and the loss of rights.

Because of this I often would like to move. But I'd like to move to a place where I can still have my own water and fish and garden, and it would have to be outside the country where there are more freedoms. There are a couple countries in Latin America that are contenders, along with New Zealand. It's interesting when pondering this to realize how much more freedom fluency in several languages would give me. My language skills are poor due to being unused, and that does influence my thoughts on which places are most desirable. What if I could speak Swedish? Certainly Sweden would be an option then. This is a good reason to value language skills.

At times though it seems like things are regressing world wide. From this perspective it makes more sense to stay and fight. It's difficult though when so few see the problems, so instead of compatriots I find mostly detractors. "If you don't love america, go back to where the hell you came from!" Well, OK, but I am an american indian, my family has been here for 1.5 million years at least, and before that we were in the world that existed before this one. I don't think it's even possible to go back. As for our children, I hope they will have the skills and opportunity to leave for other places that are good places for them to pursue their own dreams if they need to.
in a tree house in the forest for part of the year, and in a beach hut by the sea in a non developed part of the Cayman islands for some of the year.

To be close to nature and appreciate the rhythm of the world. To bring my kids up in sync with the natural world, with freedom and joy.
If you lived on Cayman Brac, you could visit the remains of Donald Crowhurst's boat.
