Radical Unschoolers Network

the network for radical unschooling families

Hi My name is Robyn Parker and I have two sons ages 13 and 16  and I have been married to the same man for 23 years next Friday.  We have been homeschoolers since 2003 when we took our oldest out of school.  He attended k-2 and I saw the love of learning sucked from him.   I have never found anyone who unschools; ever.  Anyway 3 weeks ago I quit the home school co-op that I have been a member of since 2006 and the leader since 2007.  It didn't bring joy to my family or me anymore.  What started out as a few of us gathering once a week for activities like science chef and 4-H turned into school the last two years.  That happened because a lot of the kids were registered as high schoolers and all of a sudden we "needed" high school classes for credit.  So after a rough time this past year with a couple of new families who brought strife to the group and dealing with the problems in the group, I decided to quit.  I am soooo excited!  We are away from the computer packaged curriculum families who assign grades.

So today I searched for unschoolers and found this group.  I have never fit in with the home schooling community here because I don't believe in doing school at home.  So it's refreshing to read other unschoolers thoughts.  Incidentally, my 16 year old son is sitting next me as I type this and he is editing this post! :)
