Where in Florida are y'all?

Hi there,

We're considering Florida as a possible place to move and would like to get an idea of where RU families are. Any places that have a thriving community? Any places you wish you were closer to?

We are in Sotuh Florida, near Ft Lauderdale/Miami and we haven't found ANY unschoolers yet, but I've requested to join the florida unschoolers group and was denied?! Don't know why, and I think it's funny but oh well.... :)

That's unfortunate, on both counts! We live in Costa Rica now and the one unschooling family we know of is on the other side of the country.

We recently moved to Daytona Beach, but don't think there's alot of unschoolers here, unfortunately. I've heard somethings go on in Orlando area.

We've been looking into Brevard County a lot - that's not too far from you (south). There seems to be an active group of families there. We got the idea from here, actually - someone posted that they live in Orlando but hang out with folks in Brevard as much as they can.

Hey we'll be moving back in Miami in a couple of weeks. We live far north in the county. There is the Broward Alternative Homeschoolers Group that has quite a few unschooling families. They range both end of the spectrum but everyone I've ever met has been super super nice.

There are a few RU families in Miami as well but I wouldn't say we have a thriving community. The strongest community is in Broward and not all rU's.

where in Costa Rica are you?? Do you know Sharron and Dick, unschoolers near San Jose? We LOVE Costa Rica.

Anyway, we live in DeLand, north of Orlando, inland of Daytona Beach.

we are over here in DeLand, not too far from you. There are a couple of other unschooling families here in DeLand. I have 3 boys, 9, 12, and 15. They love surfing and WOW.
