Yes, let's connect.  I'll check out your blog.  I'm on facebook as well so let's chat.  I'm also glad to meet up with other homeschoolers to share.

Ramona, Thank you so much for responding to my post!  It has been a challenge trying to connect with other homeschoolers.  Yes, let us connect and exchange thoughts and ideas for sure.  Hope to chat with you soon.

Is any one here in the chicago area?

Tobia, I would love to connect with you.  l have one teenager, though like his syblings he's more like a young adult.  he's 18...I guess that's not the same as 10.  ...would love to chat about teen experiences while homeschooling.  I may have some helpful thoughts and ideas.  Right now, I'm working on the new relationship I have with them as fellow adults.  It's not too weird...especially since our past experiences have been about honestly communicating with one another.

Hmmm.  I don't see how I can reply to each comment here.  Darcel...all three children slept in the bed with me and my husband.  My husband and I purchased a bed for our daughter when she was about 4 years old.  He and I took turns sleeping in the bed with her.  I'll never forget the way my husband one night returned to our room in 10-min after he went into the room to sleep with our daughter.  He had such a gloomy sad look on his face.  I asked him, what happened.  He said, "She told me to leave.  That I was crowding her bed."  Our cue that she likes the quiet solitude of her own space...though for a while she would return to our room to sleep with us when she wanted the communal warmth of mom and dad's bed.  ...and had I to do it again, I would still have a family bed.

I would like to interview more black unschooling families on my blog. I've already done one family, and the response was great! Lately I've had questions via email and messages on facebook from black families wanting to learn more about unschooling. I thought it would be a good idea if people heard from someone other than me. If you're interested, please contact me here, or via email themahoganyway{at}gmail{dot}com

You can read the first interview at this link.

@Ifasayo ... I believe the concept of unschooling is not being locked in to scheduled and predetermined guidelines by the system but rather catering to the learning styles and needs of each individual child and find what best fits your household... someone correct me if I am wrong.

Saphah, I think it's great that your looking into unschooling. It has been such a positive change for our family. My husband was completely against homeschooling at all in the beginning. Looking forward to meeting up with you soon!
