Also, there's this. It's open and public.
Just as a fair warning...I have a potty mouth.

Hey there Brittany Wright!! I know I'm not from the upstate but I AM here! This website (or at least this group) is a bit slow. If you (or anyone else) are interested, (local or not) feel free to drop me a line at clippingchick@live.com. I'm right here in West Columbia. Like I said, it's a bit further away than you requested but still. Happy April everyone and hope all of you are doin' well!!

Sincerely, Christy...MamaFlip <3

Is there anybody out there? It seems a bit dead out here. Anywho, I'm  new and interested in networking with other parents who unschool in the upstate SC area (Greenville, Spartanburg, Anderson, etc...). ^_^

Anybody out there?

I see only three posts for the year of 2012?

I'm new to the site as of last night and just wanted to touch base with some of you. I was hoping there was someone nearby. I live in the midlands and would love to chat with you guys about things. As vague as that sounds, I truly do look forward to hearing from someone! Until then...

Take care, be good and tread lightly.

Good Morning! I am a single mom of a seven and four year old. We live in Sylva NC. I am looking to meet more unschoolers and found this site. We would like to meet some folks of the same mindset so please speak up if you would like to make some new friends.

How neat Amber! We have a family tree that was done some years ago but has not been updated. The earliest spelling of my husband's family when his 3 greats grandfather was born in NY, the last name was Van Valkenburgh.

Checking in here again and so glad to see your post Christine.  We love Asheville but there is just no way we can move there.  It is nice to know that there is at least the prospect of some other unschoolers not too far from where we are looking at moving (Tryon, Columbus, Saluda area). And while I'm here I'd like to ask again if there are any out there in Polk County.  I know at one point there was a sort of Co-Op that was active there.  Does anyone know about that?!

Oh and to Melodye-noticed your last name is Van Volkinburg.  The house we are currently living in is up for being put on the register of historic places and belonged to a prominent citizen (here in upstate NY) by the name of Van Valkenburg.  I have been collecting info on him from all over, how funny would it be if you are related.  Interesting!

Hopefully we all can be helpful and supportive to each other! I would love to talk to others that unschool. I am fairly new and still learning, but it would be great to get to know others and learn from you all. Right now, I am researching the "how tos" of homeschool in SC. It's pretty relaxed in Arkansas, but it seems like joining a homeschool association is the way to go. Anyone have any tips for me?

My family & I just moved to Asheville NC from MA 3 weeks ago. Hi to everyone, especially the newcomers (like me!). We're loving Asheville in part because there are several unschooling families here that we already know, which really helps us as we try to get connected to our new community.

Cheers!

Hey, I just wanted to chime in since I've seen the last few posts.  But I didn't respond since I'm somewhat of a bystander at this time: my kid is 20 months old - not yet school-age to be "un", although maybe I'm wrong about that.

I would imagine this is as active as people make it.  Although I don't know anyone on here.  I just wanted to say that the messages didn't go unnoticed, at least by me.  Also, hello!
