in the meantime i encourage u to become a certified doula.

www.dona.org

www.doula.com

that's a start. homebirth midwives r needed all ova the caribbean... n the world. i say homebirth midwives cuz not all midwives r traditional midwives. many call themselves midwives n they r nurses.  best thing to do is to find homebirth midwives before u get pregnant. there r bahamian doulas i can direct u to. they know midwives....

someone in nassau just had an unassisted homebirth. yes, it was planned. she had anotha unassisted homebirth b4.... in anotha country. good 4 her! from what i'm told u have to really line it up to get a midwife that'll assist u. there r only a few in the bahamas that r comfy with homebirths. n then it depends which island ya on too. u gotta ask the rite folks sis. n if u go to the fb page you'll be connected properly. i suggest dat ya friends chk out the fb page too. thing is there is no midwifery model of care in the bahamas. that's what the focus of the group is... to bring the midwifery model back so women truly have anotha option. join the movement girl. ya friends too.

o ok. hmm.

www.ancientartmidwifery.com they offer midwifery programmes long distance.there r a few others mid. schools that do. or u could always go to a school in fla. if that's feasible. def join the mothers & midwives ....in the bahamas & TCI fb page. i c that there was a doula training in nassau last yr. think there will be anotha one there this yr or next. u may wanna chk it out. there was a tv show ...in nassau.. that focused on breastfeeding. theyll b back to talk bout midwifery/nassau. it's on etoile's show, dialogue(?). u familiar?

Oh Nicole, homebirthing is a topic i can go on and on about! I sooooo badly wanted a homebirth with my second child. I mean, i wanted it so bad that for 6 months i searched and search to find a midwife here who would assist me. No luck. I was so determined (borderline obsessed!) with having my son at home that i started researching Unassisted Childbirth. Of course, hubby was not on my run with that idea. However, i still printed out a manual on how to deliver a baby, and forced him to read it, and if he didn't i did!
Well, as far as he would go was to wait at home until the last minute. So, the night i went into labor i kept it to myself! I didn't even tell him i felt anything. The next morning when my contractions were closer i told him, and we waited. I LOVED being home! I took a warm shower, and rocked on my ball. My mom was going crazy!
I could have not told anyone i was getting close to pushing, but i did and off to the hospital we went! I almost had him in the car, and then in the hallway!

Anyways, my point is I would love if the did homebirths over here! I do know of a few women who are planning to start something, but i don't know when. I will check out the links you posted as well. I was actually thinking of becoming one....but i couldn't find much on it.

And, Terri, I am also looking forward to your e-book! BTW, i read you had a homebirth! Was it with a midwife, or unassisted?

hi terri. i have a mixed diet. all vegan. mostly raw...as in typically a few days a week i eat rat.... i snack on fruit, sees, nuts lots. i'm not rigid with the raw aspect of my diet. then again i'm a very simple eater. i tend to eat more cooked food in the winter. n when i go on vacation i tend to treat myself lots...so... that means desserts (i'm typically not a big desert girl) n cooked comfort foods.yeah...caribbean vegan...i at least wanna c it. def look fwd 2 ya book.

Nicole, I worked with Taymer Mason, author of Caribbean Vegan, earlier this year. She is wonderful. We did a big Health and Wellness program here in Dominica. You can read more at www.dominicawellnessevents.com

My review of her book is here: http://onelovelivity.com/childofnatureblog/?p=2031 It is a good book but her specialty is vegan comfort food. If you are into high raw eating it's not that!

I have a new vegan e-book coming out in the next couple of weeks. It's based on a week of my ital, cook from scratch recipes. Will keep you informed :-) onelove

catrina, since ya into natural living r u into homebirthing/waterbirthing? if so r others homebirthing on ya island? hope so. i'm connected to bahamians who r tryin to reintroduce homebirthing/midwifery in the bahamas. good stuff! i'm involved in a movement to do the same thing here...so... we're working together. i just fb'ed u the name of the bahamian group. pls tell other interested bahamians/bah. residents to join the cause. women should have natural preg/birth options. point blank. chk out our movement, www.consciousbirthbermuda.com. we have a fb page too. www.doulasofbermuda.com is part of it. do u have doulas there? i know there r at least 2 in nassau. there will prob be a few more soon. u sound like  a sistah who may b interested in getting certified as a doula/natural childbirth educator or maybe even a midwife. not sure. in order to revive these traditions some of us have to be willing to get certified as doulas, midwives. no one's gonna bring homebirthing back....to normalize it... but us. got me? anyhoo...
