Our younger daughter started community college this quarter and is signed up for Fall quarter.

Hi, my son is going to a homeschool/public school co-op. This is his second year, I am still his primary educator but now I have help and he gets to take classes of his choosing with other kids in a wide age group. I think the hardest part is to justify my teaching style to the district when I abandon the learning plan or timeline in favor of natural learning.

Great! Even though I really want my son to come home again - I don't want him to have a bad experience, either. The first two and 1/2 weeks of his school is going to be some kind of expedition experience, around town. I am curious to hear what that turns out to be.

Her day went very smoothly. She came out on her own and met me accross the street (to avoid the mad pick up traffic) and she was cheerful and not stressed. I am actually really proud of how calmly she is going about all the little things that come up. I would definitely know if she felt stressed - she doesn't hide it!
After school yesterday we joined our regular homeschool/unschool parkday (already in progress) and she hung out with her homeschool friends at teh park for a few hours before returning home. She gave me a run down on which teachers she thought would be nice and helpful and which ones she thought were trying to act nice on the first day but would actually turn out to be kind of mean. I have no doubt she has them all pretty accurately pegged -that is one of her many talents : ) Today started smoothly as well. I can't believe she gets up, dressed, cheerfully easts breakfast... so far so good. No books yet, no tests, no assignments, just getting to know people and reading off rules and expectations and sitting around a lot.

Hi Krisula-

Oh boy- I feel that guilt, too(referring to your blog) Though it really seems like there is a big pull for some kids to just find out what this school thing is all about. I know my son is really curious about just what it is- and curious to see if he can find interest and competency in that arena. We are a little concerned that he will be giving up so much of his other interests for school - that maybe he is doing it out of a lack of confidence in his ability to succeed in life without school. But, I think it also shows a lot of confidence to jump into high school with very little prior academic experience - he also has a stutter which makes it even more challenging. I think it actually is a pretty brave thing these kids are doing - can you imagine- choosing to go to school when you don't HAVE to? Wow! That shows some kind of strength, I think. I think I can really see that if you don't know what it is - the pull to find out could be pretty compelling.

Well ladies, today's the day. Sydney's first day of school. I want to say it is her first day ever but... she did have a year or so in a Montessori school when she was 4 and then she wanted to try school when she was 7 - she stayed 2 days before she decided it wasn't for her. After that seh thought about going to 8th grade last year but changed her mind before the first bell on the first day. (We went to a water park homeschool day instead : )

I feel like she'll at least stay the semester this time, perhaps the whole year. I blogged a bit about it on my home page if you want to come see.

My 16 year old son will start school - a public charter school - next week by his own choice. I am finding this to be very strange and interesting.

I could use some help here! Or just some others to share with who are or have gone through this experience.

My son has been at home since birth with a few very short term exceptions. I am experiencing a puzzling array of emotions, and wondering what appropriate involvement is going to look like.
