Comment by Christy on March 12, 2013 at 9:52am Thanks, Vicki :) I do appreciate groups like this and the conferences, too, when we can get to them--it makes me feel a little less alone in the journey. I'll just keep looking for others to connect with along the way!
Comment by Vicki "Jakesmome" Watkins on March 12, 2013 at 9:47am Oh yikes, My kindle did an awful job. sorry about that. (a bunch of words were deleted in that last comment!)
Comment by Vicki "Jakesmome" Watkins on March 12, 2013 at 9:45am Hi Christi, after fifteen years of doing this, still have very few like families on road. the best we have is thru groups like this, but mostly from attending Unschooling conferences. we're currently in Colorado, btw. where despite the stereotype of crunchy families everywhere, we find it's all gas field workers in the campground. (of which, we are one of them, but don't let any one know :-) ) of the traveling we met they either send kids to school the town they're working, our they are strict home schoolers. So i don't know what my point is, other than.....good luck! lol
Comment by Christy on March 11, 2013 at 9:37am Hi all! I've joined this group in hopes of meeting some like-minded rad unschoolers that are also living with their families on the road. I seem to be having a difficult time connecting with other unschooling families while on the road. We are currently traveling the US (mostly east coast currently, but will head west this Fall). If you would like to connect along the way, I'd love to chat with you :)
Comment by Joy Grant on December 20, 2012 at 1:43pm I have been prepping my spouse about heading out for several months of the year starting in 2017 with mini trips in the summer months leading up to then. My son and I want to get an old greyhound bus and camperize it as a project. (yes I have absoulutely no skills in this area) We can't leave sooner as she is contracted to work till then as a teacher. In the Bus we plan on making it so each child has their own "Room". I saw a school bus conversion that had the rooms in it and I know we would have way more space on a greyhound. My son is all gungho on this and he is only 13! I'm still working on how I can travel with a greenhouse! LOL! We plan on towing the family van so I can't tow a greenhouse.
Comment by Jamie Brightlynn on July 22, 2012 at 12:06am We are planning a year adventure on the road in 2015 when my hubby retires from the military! Cant wait! We are a family of 7 but will probably be a family of 8 by the time we do this. How is it on the road with a large family?
Thanks Lauren. Wow, five! Have you been on the road since they were babies? I have an 11 and a 9 yo. We were discussing the idea with them and they want their own rooms! My youngest wants two separate RVs!!!
Comment by Lauren Fisher on June 21, 2012 at 4:59am Heidi, the longer we stay on the road, the more dispensable EVERYTHING becomes (except the kids). We've replaced many things that we started out with and have lightened our loads as we've gone along. We have five small children, and we travel now with virtually NO toys. They play with other peoples' toys or whatever they find. The most important things are headtorches -- buy the best -- and a good attitude!
Hello, I would like to ask for some advice and info. At this time, I, like so many other working professionals, am losing my house. We are attempting a short sale on our home. So, we began considering the feasiblity of "hitting the road". I currently work online and we homeschool our daughters. Talk about an opportunity presenting itself. Of course, the fear sets in. We would have a base address in New Jersey, but not a house. We would sell/store our "stuff".
So, I am asking for any advice; is there anything you wish you had been told when you were considering living on the road in an RV?
Any words of wisdom or food for thought would be appreciated.
Heidi
