EL, you made a statement in the "tell us your story" thread that I wonder if you'd like to open up for discussion, either here or over in the "philosopy" section. Or maybe I should say I'm interested in seeing it opened up for discussion and would you like to start it or shall I just steal your words? Here's the quote:

"The thing, says I, is to emphasize that what a person does for money is not what they are. I do a variety of things. I hire out to help people with timber construction projects, manage their honey bee apiaries, and in the past few years I've swept floors and pitched hay for pay. No work is either beyond my capacity nor beneath my dignity. Yet none of those this is who I am."

Justyna:"It is interesting that in your opening remark you imply that there is a relationship between choosing the RU life and being financially free, and that relationship is even more clearly evident in the discussion forum."

I suppose I take that relationship one step further. Methinks that when people are touched by the unschooling fire, they tend to "un" all aspects of their lives over which they are willing to take control.

Some stop at the academics, they find themselves willing and able to take control of that aspect of their family life and "un" it. But other of family dynamics they are unwilling or unable to take control.

Next we find the working definition of "radical unschooling" where people are willing to take control not only of the academics but also of other family dynamics such as bedtime, eating, clothing choices, television, etc. But many stop here and are unwilling or unable to take control of other weighty family matters such as how they earn a living.

Some, present company I'd imagine, take control of all aspects of their family, the academics, the logistics, and the family economy and "un" the lot.

I am thinking unschooling has no limits in a family's life and only comes to a boundary when it comes to an aspect of that family's life of which they are as yet unwilling to take control.

Gypped .. no slur on Gypsies. Twice in one week. Those scammers are at it always.

First there was a camera outfit called Camera Addict. If it's too good to be true.... It seems they go by a ton of different company names.

Then Grouply happened into my inbox with a friend request and when I signed up all my fellow Yahoo list members (of the groups I belong to) received a friend request from me I mean Grouply.

Ways to use the concept of behaviorism against people. Take the natural inclinations of people whose interests match your concept and then mess with them. I spend some moments irritated at them. Interestingly, I want a camera and I enjoy socializing online, so I guess that's all a good scammer needs to know in order to get me. It's insidious.

I'm assuming Grouply makes more money if they get a bigger set of group members through the selling of advertising. Not illegal but I don't like their methods of getting group members. Camera addict's game is to sell you on the nice price of a camera only to send customers emails saying the camera is out of stock but they have plenty of photography peripherals (which are their real item of business.. they don't have cameras in stock as far as we can tell).

The internet is perfect for connecting good deals with customers in legitimate ways but this past week has given more than the usual reason to pause whenever responding to things I like online.
