Interested in a road trip first weekend in May? The Wisconsin Parent's Association home school conference info is now available online. http://www.homeschooling-wpa.org/conference/

Hey Kim. I think you are near (or nearer than me) to the Johnsburg resource center http://www.johnsburglibrary.org/content/about-homeschool-resource-center-hrc . You can get any book from there. Check out the yahoo groups for Illinois homeschool or unschooling for the current offerings of activities, groups, etc. If you guys can't make it to the Conference then maybe some of the cd's from Live and Learn conference might help. Here are some free ones too http://www.altruists.org/downloads/by_subject/others/education/ .

Anyway, welcome! I know there are alot of homeschoolers in Algonquin/Lake in the Hills area!

Hi Kim. Perhaps you and your husband could attend the upcoming InHome conference. (see link below) If not, I would recommend checking out Home Education magazine from your library. There are several outstanding books on unschooling, but if your husband is too busy to read them, like mine was, shorter articles may work better.

Hi everyone-I need help! First let me say I am so glad I found this group! I have been searching for the past week for some Illinoians who are homeschooling. I have not started yet but am really interested and am freaking out! I live in Algonquin near the lovely Randall Road Corridor! I dont know where to start, how to make the jump or how to get my husband to feel secure with this decision. He is type A all the way and will be lost if he does not have a report card to judge! :-)!! Any suggestions-a seminar or anything my husband and I can attend?

So happy to meet you all!!

I second the recommendation on Alison Mckee. My husband attended her workshop years ago and it really helped him trust unschooling.

The brochure is up online for the InHOME conference, to be held March 5-7 at the Pheasant Run resort in St Charles.

Allison McKee is worth going to listen to if you haven't before.

Hi! Just started a group for those of us in Southeast Wisconsin and also anyone who is close enough or would like to come visit when they are in town. :)
http://familyrun.ning.com/group/UnchoolersUnitedSEWisconsin (I am new to this and cannot figure out how to invite through RUN without an email, please forgive my newbie skills). A few of us (unschooling families) have found each other here and we've had a few playdates and plan more. Please add us to your group list if you'd like to know about them. :)

Just thought I'd mention here that on the 27th of October on my radio show I'll be giving away 4 free tix to the Chicago Toy and Game Fair. I know not every listener is from this region like you guys are. I'm sure you have better chances of getting down to Navy Pier for the excitement than some folks in LA might! Details for tuning in to Relaxed Homeschooler Talk Radio are here. Hope to talk to you live or see you and the kids at the young inventor's challenge.

Hi! We are actually in Wisconsin, but pretty close to the the IL border in Kenosha. We are in Illinois a lot, Gurnee and Zion esp. Anyone here near Wisconsin, in northern Illinois? I just signed up to be an Unschoolers United Facilitator, and we would love to invite anyone close enough to join us for playdates!!!
