Radical Unschoolers Network

the network for radical unschooling families

Thanks so much to all that have joined this little group within a group within a group. :)
I am Bekah. I live in Olney, home of the white squirrels.
I have two always homeschooled boys, Micah and River (5 and 1).
I am probably the only unschooler in my little rural town and even finding other homeschoolers has been a challenge.
I find the online community a lifeline for good or ill. :)
We are an environmentally conscious family, vegetarian, and grassroots recyclers in our community.
We enjoy local music and arts and gardening and are long gone bibliophiles. We came to unschooling through the attatchment parenting/breastfeeding/co-sleeping etc backdoor.
I am also the only momma in Olney that I have met who lives and parents this way.
Happy to meet others and enjoy the group.

i would love to join the gardeners group! we have been unschooling ourselves when it comes to gardening and landscaping because we don't know much about it ...but discovered we love it so we bumble along and figure things out as we go.:)
just like unschooling...you have an interest you go for it and learn!
we enjoy bikes as well and hope to save enough to purchase a few for environmental reasons. we live in a small town so driving to places that are close enough to bike but too far to walk with little ones just really bothers me...so welcome!!

Hello all, I am Mary, homesteading homeschooling gardening and gun toting goat midwife. Former "progressive" Mayor now more interested in tomato varieties and gardening then local politics. Kyle (our 1st homeschooling experiment 20) is now off to University. Please to say we did not screw him up - he is an amazing man - so we began again with Johnna (8) and Orion (5) our newest experiments. We live in a small community of 150 outside Bloomington / Normal. My husband Mike teaches at an "alternative" jr. sr. high for children with social / emotional / behavior disorders. We struggle to balance his "teacher" needs with the relaxed style of learning which suits the rest of us. Like Bekah, we are the homeschoolers in our community - though we have quite a nice secular group in B/N.
