The biggest thing I knitted was a babywearing poncho (goes over me and the little guy while he's in the ergo) for myself.

I used chunky weight yarn and fat needles because I was so intimidated by the amount of knitting it would require and I was still a bit of a novice and it was something I was actually planning on wearing. But EVERY time I wear it in public I get positive comments on it. I want to do it again, this time without stripes.
Blankets and sweaters are the biggest things I've made. I have old material that I'm saving to make rugs and the like with.
That's really cool. My son has outgrown the Ergo, but something like this would have been great to have. Good gift idea, thanks.
Everything I've knit so far has been small and portable (bags, hats, socks, headbands, vest/sweater for 3yo, etc.). I like portability -- projects I can easily take w/me wherever.

Women in my knitting group will sometimes bring large items they're working on, but sometimes they say they don't like working on items like blankets in the summer because it's too hot.
Wow, that babywearing poncho is really neat!

The best thing I've crocheted was a dish cloth! I haven't used it as a dish cloth because it's too cool. It has bobble stitches so it took a while but was really fun. I think maybe someday I'll make more and make a blanket out of them or something.
OK, it's taken me a few days, but I now realize that the topic is "BIG things you've knit or crochet" and I read it as "best things you've knit or crochet" hah. I haven't done anything big, but obviously I was very proud of my bobble stitch dish cloth.
Rebecca, your babywearing poncho is so cool. Wish I've thought of it when my children were that young!!! One of my large and intricate projects was King-Size Coverlet in Size 4 needles:

I'm gathering fibers to do another one in Persian Poppies.

Blessings,
Sarah
This is one of the largest shawl I've knitted todate--70" diameter, in Noro Kureyon Sock yarn. Initially, it feels a little rough and scratchy. Once washed, it's deliciously soft and pleasing. Now onto the next mystery shawl...after recovery from 3-day intense knitting.

Sarah, WOW the coverlet is absolutely beautiful! Size 4 needles?!!!! Wow, please post the persian poppies as you work on it. Do you graph out the design first or just knit? Jess
That is fantastic! You should get positive feedback. That's an accomplishment for any newer knitter!

Baby blankets and a sweater each for my 3 & 6 year-olds. Oh and a cardigan style vest for my hubby.

Eventually I'll make a sweater for myself, that will be my biggest attempted project.

I've also made wraps as presents for a friend and my MIL.

I've only been knitting for a little over a year, but love it and am quite addicted. :D
