Every fall I make a new hat. Some years I'll make several hats - last year, thanks to the new job, I made three by the end of winter (two for work - I cast in plaster all day, so I needed something I could feel okay drenching in gypsum). Anyway, today I started the Hat of the Year, which is going along with my new theme of More Fabulousness! with yarns I picked up at a random yardsale. I walked up and voila! the perfect yarns for this years hat, one dollar.

Anyone else into hats? Have any fun pix? Here's a pic (I hope) of a hat I made for someone else a couple years ago - she fell in love with the hat on my head and wanted something similar. Fun.

I love hats. I made a Nancy Drew style open work one for my dd and her teddy bear. I made pinwheel sweaters for she and her monkey. Matching of course. LOL Do you use particular patterns? Or just make your own? I made the ones for dd and her bear off the top of my head. I am always looking for good hat patterns though. The monkey sweater was just a smaller version of hers.

Love the hat photo--what pattern is that?
I'm pretty sure I didn' t use a pattern for the hat - its a style I can "fake" pretty easily. I used a pattern for the ruffled brim, though - its a Vogue knitting pattern for a child's mittens! I love knitting lace and ruffles, but I'm not very good at "faking" that. I've just started trying my hand at crochet for that reason - I think the lace could be easier to fake once I get the hang of it.

That's pretty much the way I am with any kind of pattern or recipe, though, I'll use part of it, maybe mix it with part of another pattern (or recipe) and fake the rest.
I can't seem to find the hat picture, Meredith???? What's wrong with my computer?

I love HATS! This year's Fall/Winter hat is Estonian, Peruvian, Fair Isle, color-play focused. I found a project on Ravelry that I like and made up my own. So far, I made two in Merino Wool for my daughters; with 3 custom orders to design/cast on:

I actually like them non-fulled and am adjusting my pattern for the two versions using different fibers.

Are you a quilter too, Meredith? I love the quilt shown as your profile picture, absolutely stunning!

Blessings,
Sarah
The picture is an attatchment - silly me finally figured out what the little icon shaped like a picture at the top of the reply box is for...duuuuuh.

I love your bright multicolored hats with the bobbles! I have something similar for me with earflaps - no bobbles, but lots of fun color and patterns.

I'm more of a quilter than a knitter, truth be told. I like the portability of knitting. My quilts tend to be elaborate and have sooooooo many tiny pieces.... Here's my website if you want a peek:

At some point I'll add a page of what I have handy for sale and will probably put some knit goods there, too.
oh you all are a great inspiration!
i don't knit hats yet! and if i do, it will be by knitting rectangles together and sewing them! lol
maybe one day!
:)
Wow Meredith I just checked out your quilting site. You do amazing work!!

I will be knitting two hats this year, one for my husband and one for my brother. The only problem is I haven't knitted with DPNs yet and I tried to work the gauge the other night and it was a big fat failure. I felt like I was trying to wrangle an octopus holding all of those needles. I am going to have to get my friend Pam to show me what I was doing wrong so I can get these things started. It's going to be cold here soon.

Love the bright colored hats too, one day I will get to make a fun one. Knitting for my guys means no funky fun stuff! LOL

I made the Cabled Newsboy Cap (pictured) last winter. I'm thinking about doing the Boho Beret or the One Day Beret this season.

Oh, Meredith, I was the one who posted the corset gloves. Glad they inspired you. Wrist warmers are cool. ;)
omg its beautiful!!!!!
