That's right. We live in New York, and we're not afraid of any silly laws! New York is a great place to unschool.

I live in Texas now...but I am from Rochester & my family & I just got back from a long trip to NY because we are planning to move back...but to Ithaca, NY. We spent 5 days in Ithaca @ the B&B @EcoVillage & looking forward to the move (closer to family etc) but I really want to connect with unschoolers =) the laws seem intimidating compared to the freedom in Texas.

Heather I am glad to hear about your group & it makes me more excited to move!! It would have been nice to touch base while there...also tried contacting the Northern Lights Learning Center folks for info but got no reply.

So glad I found this resource! Hello everyone

Hi All ~ I am from the Levittown area of Long Island and have two children ages 7 & 13 and am interested in learning about unschooling/homeschooling. I understand much of the
difference but am not sure how to go about it. The NYS requirements are very discouraging and make it sound easier to just send them to school, lol. I know that I am just green to the paperwork and it probably gets easier as you go along. I am hoping that someone can shed some light as to how it is all done, pros and cons and possibly reliable web links. My kids are currently enrolled in the school system and are due back 9/9. Is it too late to submit a Notice of Intent?
Thanks for any and all information. ~ Jean

Our group is going strong and meeting WEEKLY on Wednesdays at about noon at parks and other locations in and around Ithaca for any unschoolers who want to travel or are in the area.

I just signed up here and you don't know how relieved I am to find so many of you that are just like us. We live in Herkimer County New York and are at loss to find others like us here in the area. Anyone out there?

Welcome, Jules! I was curious about the actual impact of reporting on unschoolers. If you want to share, just reply in the "How bad is it really" discussion.

Haha--me too. My friends say it's no big deal, though.

Sure is! (Of course, I say this before having to file any paperwork yet -- ds is 3yo).
