Who's your favorite male character in the manga and anime you're familiar with?

Hands down for me is Kenshin from Rorouni Kenshin. :-)

(Cool! Finally figured out how to upload pictures :-)

Such a beautifully complex angsty backstory: orphaned as a child by slavers, brought up by a swordsman he joins in the war between supporters of the Shogun and the Emperor, he becomes an assassin to bring about changes in the society that orphaned him. But he becomes too good at his job and a soulless killing machine. The story takes place well after the war (10 years or so?) and the current government which has aspects that may not be as wonderful as he wished are still battling the old powers. And keep trying to pull Kenshin back in even though he's sworn not to kill again.

I like different characters for different reasons. It's soooo hard to pick a favorite. I haven't read any manga yet but I have seen a few anime's.

Howl from Moving Castle is pretty neat for being quintessentially male in many ways. Love the fact that he is so feminized too. I don't know what it is about that. I guess it's makes it more like a fairy story. It's endearing that his ego almost undoes him, and that autonomy matters so much to him.

Inuyashu is great because he recognizes Kagome's strengths and the fact that he depends on them, while continuing to hone his own strengths. That's a feminist quality. Gotta admire that in a man. And there he is as otaku unschoolers' icon!
Right now, I'm enjoying Syaoran from Tsubasa. His unselfish (well, that can actually be argued) love for Sakura keeps him going. He is respected by his peers and has a strong-yet-silent kind of personality which I like. And also I think he's just really cute :)

Katherine, you mentioned how feminine Howl is...I so agree! I love his line, paraphrasing here, "What use is there in living if I can't be beautiful?!" Hee! I think a lot of male anime characters are feminine. It seems to be canon for certain series, doesn't it?
Kenshin is beyond awesome! Also my all time favorite character.

Other than that, I don't really have any favorite male characters...
My favorite male character is Rokutanda Tsutomu from Marmalade Boy. He's adorable when he cries (and he cries almost every time he appears). He suffers from unrequited love and he's not any luckier when he makes a bet, but there is hope for him...

I love Kenshin and I also have a very big soft spot for Kyo from Fruits Basket... but I think my male favorite character is Kakashi from Naruto. He is Naruto's first teacher once Naruto becomes a ninja. I know there are lots of characters that are better and probably more interesting, but I just love Kakashi for no good reason. He makes me smile.
