One of my favorite anime series, 12 Kingdoms, is based on a series of fantasy novels by Fuyumi Ono which have been licensed in the U.S. The first two are out and I read and enjoyed the first one. It was a little slow, but still very good. They changed a few things in the anime and the book made a lot more sense in some ways.

The author has also written a manga called Ghost Hunt which is worth reading.

It was the first time I had read a Japanese novel and I really enjoyed it. Any recommendations or comments about a Japanese novel?

I read the first of the 12 kingdoms series. I can't find the second one and the third one is getting released soon...I think. I liked it (vol. 1), especially toward the end. The style of writing was different then what I was used to, but I liked it.

I know of some other titles, but never checked them out yet.
