I had almost forgotten about this place. Just a hello to say I am still here, doing my thing! :) I unschool my 7-yr-old son in Gladstone/Milwaukie area if anyone wants to have a playdate... ;)

Thanks Lyla, I forget that there are two yahoo groups! Both are good for finding like minded unschoolers.

Dayna Martin has a few youtube things up. She's also on a few yahoo groups and probably here on ning as well. There have been several discussions about limits and such in the message board section here on ning. You should revive one and ask there.... really great convos happen that way!

I just watched this and am not quiet sure if we are truely "Radical Unschoolers" can anyone expand on this? We have always treated our children with respect and never really been "authoritative" (except with our teenager)but what about safety? Especially with teens? We always ask our daughters "what is your body telling you right now"? For things like sleep, emotions and things of that nature, but we do set limits and I feel kids need some limits to feel safe! We also tell our children that "our #1 job is to keep them safe". We NEVER say "good girl" because it seems to me that by telling a child this, then you imply that at some point they are a "bad girl"... Is this "radical unschooling"?

Well, my teen is off exploring the world...Florida now, who knows where next, hopefully back here. I'm really looking more for groups with "school-age" children (I still find saying that funny for obvious reasons)...and my daughter has suggested "more girls"...I'll check out yahoo...thanks for all the help!

Hi! Our family has a 15 yr old dd and a 7 yr old dd. What kind of things are your kids into? Not many meetups, but there are activities here and there, mostly listed on Portland radical unschoolers yahoo group. I'll try to be better about cross posting them! It's pretty hit and miss with the teens, but my dd and Lyla's dd do know a few in the area.

are you on the local unschooling yahoogroups? there have been some get togethers through the radical unschooling group there , but i don't think so much here - i have a hard time remembering to check this group, being so used to the email format. there haven't been many gatherings focused on teens though, which is what i've got (well, a 14 year old who prefers older teens, and an 11 year old.) that said - does anyone here have a teen going to not back to school camp? or - does anyone have a teen who's a writer who might be interested in the nanowrimo novel writing month on the oregon coast through unschool adventures? they especially need boys - they have about 9 girls and 3 boys right now...

Hi Merhia ~

What age(s) is/are your kid(s)? We have 2 daughters -- 7.5 and almost 4. We just signed the older one up for homeschooling DoJump classes at the Sunnyside location -- Wednesdays from 11:30-12:30 - hoping to connect with others there!
