Radical Unschoolers Network

the network for radical unschooling families

We have unschooled since time began and our daughter as part of that has tried out different styles of education.  Her most recent was three weeks at a Steiner School (not actually a proper Steiner School anymore though as it is government funded).  Now that we have withdrawn her the school will be contacting the LEA, which is fine but it will be our first encounter with them and I just wondered if anyone else here has had any experience of this and how it went for them and what I can expect?

Thank you

Hi Cher,
I'm in the USA, originally from N Ireland then London, but did not have kids until I came here, so my only experience has been with the State of Nevada, I had to google to find my state laws, and then I also googled to find a sample educational plan that would be deemed acceptable.
So far, no one has knocked at my door, so it must have been ok LOL!!!

I found these sites for you, and thought they might be helpful
I'd love to hear how it all goes.

Hi, I'm coming to this quite late so you've probably already dealt with them but I wanted to reassure that you will more than likely be ok.  We've been Home Edding for for 6 years (unschooling for 3ish) and our LEA contacted us 2 or 3 times in 5 years and that was the sum total of our contact.  It does depend a lot on where you are and (unfortunately) on how middle class and or well educated you are but a lot of the time for the LEA it's about being seen to be doing their jobs. So the very unfortunate few get a horrendous time from them and most people are fine.  If you do end up being one of the few there are some tremendous people out there working on our behalf, I would suggest Jan and Mike Fortune - Wood as your first port of call if you are in England and Wales or Schoolhouse if you are in Scotland.

Hope this helps
