Sure...
Take the first turnaround.
People do not think I am too Quiet.
Examples might be:
1.Well, only my mother told me I am too quiet.
I have never actually had anyone else tell me I am too quiet, it just seems that way when a silence is in the room.

2. The other night at Pam's, we talked and talked about the new job I am getting. I guess I do talk when I care about something.

3. I remember being on the phone and talking all night with my husband, when we first met. He is so easy to talk to.

Does that help?

Thought I would show an example that I wrote to a friend to share with you all about the work.

Katie does what is called "the work"
It includes 4 questions and a turnaround.
1) Is it true?

2) Can you absolutely know that it's true?

3) How do you react when you believe that thought?

4) Who would you be without that thought?

Turn your thought around to its opposite and give three examples of each turnaround. For example:
People think I am too quiet.
1) Is it true? yes

2) Can you absolutely know that it's true? well... maybe I don't know if it's absolutely true.

3) How do you react when you believe that thought?
I feel put on the spot to speak, and it stresses me out because I don't know what to say.
4) Who would you be without that thought?
I guess I would relax about talking. And just allowing myself to be who I am.

Turn it around (there are 3 ways)
People do not think I am too quiet.
I think people are too quiet.
I think I am too quiet.

then find 3 ways each statement is true.

It's all about perceptions and the stories we tell ourselves.

Rain

Yes, I graduated from The School in 2006. I had learned The Work back in 2000 from another School graduate and practiced it since then but it wasn't until attending TS in 2006 that my practice really took off.

I recommend it highly!

I am an inspirational life coach. Yes, since it is a huge part of my life, it is a huge part of my practice.
It's all about inquiry!

Rain, what type of coaching do you do? I bet the work is invaluable in it!

I would so love to attend the school! Jennifer...you've been to the school, haven't you? I plan to go when my children are grown. :)

Rain ~ have you been to The School for The Work?
Rain Fordyce Comment by Rain Fordyce on November 13, 2008 at 3:29pm
If anyone might be interested. I practice The Work through my coaching practice. You can write me at rain@authentictimes.com, if you would like to connect with me.

Also there is a free hotline to do The Work, through Katie's website.

Experiencing it with someone who knows how to use it, really brings a stronger connection to using it on your own.

I'm new to Byron Katie, and am excited at the concept of incorporating the work into our lives as a family.
