Hi Christina, very interesting that you live in Ecuador and really nice lodge and activities you have there. When I am in South America next time I will visit for sure. I lived in Argentina for a year around 2004. I am interested in checking out Chile at the moment, but I have lived in Thailand for the last 6 years and that's where my son was born :)

But there are still a few families in Germany that actually DO home educate in Germany! Sometimes, authorities accept home education, although it seems to be rare. There is a group in Southern Germany that meets up regularly, see here: http://www.en.eu-le.eu/gruppe.php?id=1322583629

The options for those who don't want regular schooling in Germany depend on their location, in some areas there are private schools that are democratic or otherwise alternative, so called "Freie Schule", then there are Waldorf schools and Montessori schools, all those alternatives cost money. Not attending a school is illegal and the only other option is leaving the country.

Hallo, I am German but living in Thailand most of the time. I would like to meet other German unschoolers in the postcode area 37... and also other unschoolers in Thailand. I created the RUN group Thailand unschoolers.

Hi Bea, glad you joined the group! It hasn't been very active so far. It is meant to provide a forum for people interested in german language to connect. So if your kids would like to travel to Germany one day to meet other unschoolers or have a german penfriend or whatever, just let me know, I know more people outside of this forum!

Hi, I'm Bea, living in Montreal, Quebec. I'm French, but my husband is German, and speaks German with the kids.
