Snohomish/Skagit County??

Hello there!  We're the Dubsky's.  A couple of weeks ago we packed up and moved to Stanwood Wa from South Dakota and are soooooo excited to explore this part of the country.  I'm Crystina, husband Chris , Trey 11, Isaac 10, Avril 4, Paxton 3, and our dog Maude.  Let's see...we love to create, go for walks, we are vegetarian animal lovers, we like to volunteer and give good, we're slowly becoming impressingly self sustainable and we do rowdy and loud extremely well...that's us in a nutshell.  We are looking for other unschool groups in the area to befriend.  We left an amazing group back in SD where we participated in weekly and monthly get togethers with all different kinds of families.  We would love to find a home group here.  The home school laws are much stricter here than in SD.  I would love if another mama could speak to me in laymans terms how it works here.  Looking forward to meeting you :)

I would suggest going to LIG (life is good) unschooling conference in May in Vancouver, WA...you'll meet lots of awesome locals there!

As far as laws go...all you have to do is alert your school district that you're homeschooling. You're also supposed to yearly test or be evaluated, but that is only for your records, not theirs. I choose not to do either, until needed. When your kids are teens, they may be intersted in doing running start at the local community college, which just means they can take free classes. This is the only time I registered my eldest, so she could take free classes for fun. My kids have never been tested or evaluated (until the college entrance test for my daughter), and I've been unschooling for 19 years...ymmv ;)

 There is a teen group that just started in Snohomish, a great group indeed.. My boys Asher 10 and Morgan 12 are part of the Snohomishteens group. We are also part of these great groups.!! We are big gamers too if anyone wants to connect..
