Baby steps

Last night was another sleepless night. Between pain and a running mind I found it impossible to sleep. So what was on my mind, you ask. Well I think I have been trying to jump in with both feet into unschooling and doing great for a day when I'm not in pain and feeling great then the next day what happens? I end up back on the couch in pain and everything go back to the old way and I have yet once again failed. So I was thinking maybe if I just took baby steps every day then maybe I wouldn't…See More

How would you handle this?

My wonderful daughter just had her third birthday. She shuts down in front of people so we just had family over. She did not say thank you for her gifts but I did. And during a potty break she told me in the bathroom thank you mommy. And she was very happy all evening, playing by herself and her brothers in the same room as everyone else. Just no direct thank yous and no answering anyone's repeated questions, I would respond, smile and move on. Grammy tried several times to get her to say thank…See More

what does "radical unschooling" mean to you?
To be honest I am still searching that out. Freedom!
how long have you been unschooling or homeschooling?
We just started in January 2010
first names of children
Thomas, 8
Jon Jon, 7
Emily, 19 months
a little about me
I started homeschooling at the beginning of the year. I was a very traditional parent and teacher. After many tears and a great Christmas break I search for a way to homeschool and have a joyful home. And that is how I found unschooling. We started unschooling in January. And we all love it. In fact if we go to a store and I see what looks like a great "workbook" my oldest is quick to remind me that we don't homeschool, we unschool!

I'm back!!!

Posted on June 16, 2011 at 7:12am 0 Comments

I'm so glad to be back. I've really been struggling on where I stand educationally and parenting wise. It has been a long road the last 4 to 6 months. Fears crept on of what if they are not learning? Don't you have to have math work books? What if state knocked on the door right now, what would I say we have been doing, how does that all fit into the hours and subjects we must do? So I backed out. But through prayer and much thought we are back. I don't have all the anwers but I know when… Continue

Its Monday

Posted on February 21, 2011 at 10:54am 0 Comments

So its Monday. But...you know what I have come to realize? Monday is a choice. As in how we will feel and react to Monday. Monday gets such a bad reputation. You say Monday and everyone huffs, not Monday. But we all have a choice rather it is a good Monday or just another Monday. I am going to choose to make my Monday a good Monday. A Monday full of laughter, fun and peace. And as an unschooler I feel now that I have that freedom to provide this Monday to my children. I have the freedom to…

Unschooling going well

Posted on February 1, 2011 at 9:01am 0 Comments

I have to say that I am most pleased with how unschooling is going. The boys love it and I can see them growing in many ways. It does seem like we are on break. But not all at the same time.

This week I started watching my new nephew. He is 4 weeks old. I feel so bad for his mommy, I so wish she could of stayed home longer. Emily has taken to him good. She plays the little mommy. Tries to feed him, hold him. She even played peek a boo with him. It is so cute. She yells at me if I…
