So we are in the middle of rehearsals for Wizard of Oz (if you are in the Pittsburgh area come see us! http://www.mckeesportlittletheater.com/ ) and we are finally done fighting with the SD. We are back to our "normal" selves. I haven't gotten to do much other than be with kids and go to practices, so having a break today is very welcomed. The whole family auditioned. DH is the Lion, DS1 is Scarecrow, I am Gultch/Witch, DS2 is the Coroner and DD is lullaby league, poppy and Nikko my head flying… Continue

Birthday Wishes = mind numbing and pain

Posted on June 22, 2009 at 9:45am 0 Comments

I decided to be a "dutiful daughter" and at least call my mother to wish her a happy birthday. She is having such fun with her new man she hardly notices that I don't call and barely email. I hadn't called in about 3 months, so I wasn't sure what to expect.

We sang Happy Birthday over the phone. She laughed and said thanks. I tried to chit chat and see how she was, how her birthday was going. They were planning to have strawberry shortcake--that was normal we always did that for her… Continue

Mom is amazing, mom is the best!!!

It was a beautiful sunny day and the neighbor boy had invited the children to jump on the trampoline. I watched from the kitchen as I prepared dinner. bounce, bounce, bounce, laugh. bounce, bounce bounce, giggle and squeal....

I turned to work on something and realized the sky was getting really dark on the side of the house but still sunny out the other direction. I kept working, hearing the laughter in the distance.

I turned back around and looked out the other window… Continue

Chores....I am getting it!

I love the fact that we get to experiment with our way of doing things to make it better. It seems that on the Unschool Basics list and other unschool groups the questions always come down to chores, coersion, respect and a clean home. One lady was trying to answer a non-unschooler's question about housework and how she has to make her children do it or the home would be unbearable. She wanted to know how to get the kids to do it anyway. This was my reply.

Nope, you do it yourself.… Continue

Back to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness

Posted on December 1, 2008 at 10:58am 0 Comments

Well, maybe not happiness....We are usually a really happy family so we don't really need to pursue it.

Yesterday we spent the afternoon watching LOTR Return of the King and B5 episodes. We had some great conversations about choices and why some individuals would be effected more than others by the ring. Everyone went to bed early, just pooped out and getting over a bug. Today it is back to the "norm".

I got up and vacuumed the Kitchen and LR floors. Checked email, put… Continue

We are planning when to come up for Thanksgiving and would love to come into PGH and meet you and your family. Will you have any time near Thanksgiving to see out of town RU'ers?

My mom lives an hour outside of PGH and I went the CMU for college. Maybe next time I go visit my mom, we can meet for some play?

You are most welcome for the invite. I love the Trader Joe's too...but I kind of 'have to' since my hubby works there! I haven't checked out Natural Stitches yet...I hear it is awesome.

I have added some photos of my son's drawings, unfortunately I didn't get very good shots of them. I will try tomorrow when there is better light. Maybe I can do them justice then. Enjoy!
