Hi Rob, I'm coming from a mom's perspective, but thought I'd throw in my $.02. We have 2 daughters, now 7.5 and 4. Neither of them has been to school, though we did participate in a parent run cooperative play group with the older for 2 years. M...

Do you know about the tuesday classes at OMSI??? I am trying to get in touch with the person who organizes it for some more information...and thank you so much for getting back to me about Sellwood park---we have been having fun meeting up with other families there!

re: 'i'm trying to be present for my daughter and find a good balance as i delve deeper.'

this means that i have been getting up early, staying up late and forgoing naps in order to make room for this wild exploration. it's been a while since i have felt so enthralled and inspired, feelings akin to falling in love. it's wonderful indeed, much like the promise of sleeping in or taking a nap now and again! i think i will have to make room for the rest as well as the romance and recreation :)

Yahoo groups, yes. several local groups: pdx-unshoolers, GPH, HIP & LiG. also, the AlwaysUnschooled and unschoolingbasics lists. awaiting membership to Village Home ERC list.

it's a little overwhelming right now, to be honest with you. i've been reading articles and blogs, websites and lists, book reviews and excerpts. it's exciting and refreshing, but there is so much information out there!!! i'm trying to be present for my daughter and find a good balance as i delve deeper. i know i must pace myself, but i also know i must follow my zeal!

thank you for your openness and your kindness, carolyn. yours, along with that of several others, have helped make this transition feel more tangible!

Good morning. So glad y'all could sleep in! I have been contemplating the park days, indeed, but the weather hasn't been all that warm and sunny since I found out about them. I wasn't sure if they were 'rain or shine' affairs. Riley normally naps for about two hours in the early afternoon, in the 12-3 gap. I hope to make it out before Summer's end and I look forward to perhaps seeing y'all there!

I was sad to find out that LiG had come and gone before I discovered unschooling earlier this Summer, but I was comforted knowing that we live in an unschooling hub and would likely have many more opportunities to connect with others and grow as a family moving forward. I am feeling optimistic about the possibilities!

I may check out the Vancouver Community Homeschooler's Conference at the Magenta Theater on the 29th. There is an unschooling presentation scheduled and some of the speakers sound interesting to me. We shall see.

Hope yer feeling better after yer coffee! Have a great day :)
