"Uggh, the tests...I know...and truthfully, they are not always accurate and should be used as a 'idea' or 'snapshot' of a leaner vs. the 'definition' of one. Reality being, if our kids want to travel mainstream academic…"
"My oldest son just said this very same thing to me after attending his first collage class following 4 years of unschooling. He was worried at first because he had not been in a 'classroom' for years...he came away feeling empowered that…"

a little about me
I am a Behavior Therapist and Developmental Specialist. I have been a Parent Educator, and Autism Early Intervention Specialist. I currently work in an amazing little eclectic school for Autism in VT. I am a single mom of four amazing individuals who educate me daily on how to be a better parent, and a more invested and engaged human being. I am a former Waldorf Nursery Kindergarten Teachers Assistant, and Waldorf Parent for two decades, all four of my children attended Waldorf School K-8. All four of my children have mild to significant learning disabilities. My three oldest children unschooled for high school, and my poor dear 16 yr old is the only one of my kids to try to navigate public high school and he hates it. I am currently helping my 18 yr old who has significant learning/emotional challenges find his path and get his GED. I hope to be able to allow my youngest to leave the confines of the public high school next year.

You need to be a member of Radical Unschoolers Network to add comments!
It's also a Really Good Idea, if you're interested in the discussion forum, to read for awhile first and get a "feel" for the format, there. It's different than anywhere except other radical unschooling discussions, and I don't like to see people get their feelings hurt. Forum guidelines are Here.
If you're looking to connect with others with similar interests (besides unschooling - we're a very diverse bunch!) check out the Groupssection. You'll find a gentle supportgroup, a group for Chrisitanunschoolers,African Americanunschoolers, a group discussing issues of social justice, local groups, groups for people who like gardening and more!
Also please check out the calender of events down on the main page - see if there's an unschooling conference or gathering near you, or if you know of one that isn't listed, add it! There's nothing like meeting in person.
