We started playing with "Making Algebra Child's Play" by Dr. Henry Borenson and my always unschooled children loved it. Its a hands on method that seems to make much more logical sense than following a list of rules from an Algebra textbook. Dr. B...

In our home many of these questions take care of themselves simply because we respect each other. We don't really have rules, but rather safety considerations. Teeth brushing falls into health and safety. We have explained to our children why tee...

a little about me
I'm barefoot and covered in granola crumbs most days. If I'm not blogging, I'm baking. I love living simply in Southern Wisconsin, and I need tree hugs and used bookstores to maintain my mental health.

Feeling better today......

Its so easy to allow stress to distract me from trusting unschooling. Thankfully these moments are becoming fewer and farther between, but deschooling myself feels like a life long process sometimes.

I quieted my worries by turning my focus back to things that bring us joy. DS13 and I have several online Scrabble games going, and I've developed a serious Facebook addiction playing Scramble and Pathwords.

Snow is still covering our lawn, but plans for growing more than grass this season are in… Continue

I tripped up a little.....

I should be calm, at peace but I'm not. I don't feel focused. Am I still going through post traumatic car buying stress? Is it the constant doom and gloom news thrown in our faces, or has my brain finally succumbed to the freezing temperatures?

I know I'm having one of those, "Am I doing the best by my children" modes. It began with a conversation with my husband about stuff happening at my work. DH feels I have the expertise and talent to really make a difference if only I could work full time… Continue

What we've been up to & a really good book

Everything is melting into muddy messes. I was able to find the lid to our garbage can since the snow bank has been reduced to a crusty, dirt covered mound. Today I'm tempted to open the windows since we will probably break a high temperature record. It may be in the upper 50's!! Its been great for walking, but I should be careful of the wind.

Something strange is going on with my ear. I can't tell if I'm getting an ear infection or what else could be happening, but it really hurts, and I can't… Continue

Hi. I am going back to school to get a Associate in Applied Science Degree with an emphasis on Software Solutions Development. And since I am not sure whether I will want to continue I am going to go ahead and make sure I have all the credits to transfer to a four year school. By the way, I'm Emi. Nice to meet you.

Hi Dawn! Our SE WI group is brand new and just now pulling together playdates and flyers for meetings, but Unschoolers United has been around a bit longer - it is Dayna Martin's baby. Here's the website: http://www.unschoolingunited.com/. There are about 20 of us (Facilitators/UU groups) across the country. Pretty nifty.
We'd love to meet you when you come to visit your family! Are you going to the Madison conference this January? -
