what does "radical unschooling" mean to you?
Enjoying Life & living it fully & exuberantly ~ key words: authenticity, passion, compassion, connection, and respect. Doing, going, eating and sleeping when we want with lots and lots of conversations... especially in the wee hours of the a.m.... eating popcorn and s'mores... in bed... under the covers... with a flashlight ;-)
how long have you been unschooling or homeschooling?
I have been an unschooler in my own mind all my life...I discovered the term "radical unschooling" when Em was 2 or so....and it was like AHA! So THAT'S what it's called! We were an AP family before discovering RU, and so of course it felt like a natural progression.

a little about me
I grew up in a very conservative family in a rural town in NC. I was always asking questions, wanting to know more, (& I'm STILL like that - lol) but was rarely satisfied with the answers I received from those around me. I had to learn for myself! Because I was so different (liberal views and always questioning religion in a Baptist Republican family), I went through a few years where I really thought I must have been adopted :) :)

I'm a seeker, who devours books and information of all kinds. I traveled a bit when I was in my late teens and into my 30s, then met and married my dh when I was 39. I had my only child, Emma, when I was 44. They say good things come to those who wait - and surely that was right in my case.

Let's see...some of my favorite things are my family, books, music, all things outdoors (things IN it and being a part of it), hooking up with other unschoolers, cooking, growing edibles, learning to be more sustainable and self sufficient, traveling, being creative, campfires, sailing.

More? The Caribbean islands where I 'grew up' in my late teens/mid twenties, the French Quarter (where I fell in love with the city AND my husband), my 9 year old daughter who is my best teacher of life, and being w/my mom and sisters in NC...my mom's cooking and her hugs and her wisdom.

Oh, and back when we first started unschooling I couldn't find any unschoolers in Louisiana, so I started a yahoo group (LAUnschoolers)...now we have more than 100 members. I'm also very active in our local inclusive hs group where we have at least 7 unschooling famlies.

Thanks for the friend request. It would be nice to make it to the park. There is no one to play with here. :( It would be a real road trip. Maybe someday.
