Profile Information

what does "radical unschooling" mean to you?
Giving your children freedom. Recognizing that you might not always know best and that your children have rights just as you do. Parenting with love and guidance, not fear, threats, and punishments. Living by principles, not arbitrary rules. I could go on... :P
how long have you been unschooling or homeschooling?
Currently I am learning about unschooling in preparation for hopefully having children in the future. I hope that I'm not misusing the site in any way by participating preemptively.

a little about me
I've been interested in unschooling since I found out about it, and if someday I have children, I want to raise them this way. I'm also very interested in adoption and/or foster care; the main thing that prompted me to sign up was to be able to talk to some of the foster/adoptive radical unschooling parents I noticed were here, because it's been difficult for me to find advice applicable to both subjects at once. If someone wants to start a group for that topic, I'll join!

Other related topics that interest me: unjobbing; RUing as a single parent; Sudbury schools.

Beyond unschooling and parenting issues, I'm interested in everything from any and all arts and crafts, to religion and spirituality, to foreign languages, to sustainability and permaculture, and I won't try to give an exhaustive list here. xD

As of February 2012, I am in my second semester of college. I know, I know. xD It took the seriously unpleasant first semester to force me to consider the possibility of dropping out, and thanks to the much-needed paradigm shift, if this semester ends up being as unhappy as the last one I'll leave without a second thought. Hooray for deschooling myself! ^_^
