Profile Information

what does "radical unschooling" mean to you?
Thinking of my daughter as a complete person, capable of thinking and figuring things out, knowing what she likes and dislikes. Staying close to her, paying attention to her and being a partner with her through her life. Allowing her to decide what is interesting to her and giving her attention and support. Listening to her, and taking her seriously. Being a playful parent, and though I my have policies in our home to make things go smoothly for us, allowing her to help create policies as we go. Being honest with my daughter and not giving her bs excuses (lies) to keep her from doing things.
how long have you been unschooling or homeschooling?
Well, I guess since she was born, but only technically this summer/fall (the last 5 months or so). She is preschool aged, but I live in an area where kids start going to school when they are 2, so I feel like unschooling has been a choice I made since I got pregnant, and I have been parenting that way ever since.

a little about me
I am a stay at home mom. I studied shiatsu and occasionally work random hours for special clients. I enjoy making things. I make soap. I cook and bake from scratch. I enjoy all sorts of crafts. I am married to a supportive man who works full time, though we are working on a way to have us both at home more. I am a co-counselor in my re-evaluation counseling community. I have a pretty good support system of other unschooling families, but only one other family that I feel is also radically unschooling. I only have one daughter and I plan on only having one daughter in order to focus on having a deep relationship together.
