Wow, that is most definitely beautiful! Thanks for sharing it. :-)

I'm gonna reply before reading responses - forgive me! The term "support" kinda scares me, I gotta admit. Mostly because I envision a setting with lots of hand/head patting and "Oh that's okay, you did the best you could" - which doesn't lead (qui...

From all that I've heard, Portland, Oregon, is currently unschooling central! It's also an area that seems to be very big into green living.

Hello! Unschooling, Worldschooling, Child Led Learning, Delight Driven Learning, Life Learning… Many names, yet one desire to live in freedom, loving, learning, and living each day to the fullest! That is the joy of Unschooling. I’m an 18 year o...

I now have a Yahoo! group for the local support group I'm starting, entitled UnschoolingMontreal, up and running! Even if you live no where near Montreal, I'd love to get your feedback on the welcome message etc. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/uns...

That's a hard one... I thought about whether to advertise as a bilingual group or not, and came to the conclusion that I couldn't really. My French isn't very good at all. I couldn't respond to peoples inquiries via email, or have conversations, i...

One question: will the group be bilingual? Some of the unschoolers I know are more comfortable using French.

@Bea That's great! I'll certainly keep you posted, and thanks, help is always welcome! :-) @Amanda Driving in Montreal isn't always fun, at least according to my mom (I don't drive, since I don't think driving of any sort is fun! :-P)! There's al...

Hi Idzie! I've seen your blog before, nice to see you on RUN. I joined our local unschooling group after it started so I'm not sure *exactly* how it got going, but I know it helps a ton to have a Yahoo or other email list. One thing our group did...

Hi Idzie! Thanks for the add!

Profile Information

what does "radical unschooling" mean to you?
It means freedom.
how long have you been unschooling or homeschooling?
I've been a homeschooler since I left kindergarten halfway through the year, and an unschooler since I was between 8 and 10. I'm 18 now, so I've been unschooling for a while, at this point!
names and ages of children
Heh, no kids yet. ;-)
I however, am 18.
Also, I have a sister, also unschooled, named Emilie who is nearly (scarily nearly) 16.
My parents are Debbie, who is semi-active in the unschooling community (she's on all the lists and stuff, she just often doesn't have time to keep up with them!), and Richard, who is completely uninvolved with the unschooling community, and still doubtful about unschooling in general, despite the years we've spent living that lifestyle.
a little about me
Things I'm interested in: radical unschooling, attachment parenting, green anarchy/anarcho-primitivism/anti-civilizationism, radical environmentalism, writing, poetry, photography, great books, spirituality, paganism/animism, mythology and folklore, music (especially rock and folk), vegetarianism/veganism, cooking, blogging, vlogging, nature, alternative lifestyles, thrift stores, natural medicine, people.

Things you're quite likely to find me doing: people watching, talking about one of the many subjects I'm passionate about, making strange noises that no one can duplicate, reading, listening to music, just listening, walking in the woods, writing, running for the sheer joy of it, throwing around a Frisbee, grumbling about evil corporations/government/intolerance/brainwashing, blogging, taking pictures, cuddling with both family, friends, and kitty cats.

Things you should know about me: I'm really shy in groups, especially if I don't know anyone, and will not be myself, I'll simply be quiet! Because of that, it makes me really happy when people talk to me, since I'm usually not brave enough to start conversations myself! However, once I feel comfortable with people, I'm a cheerful, hyper, talkative nutcase. Just ask my family. ;-) I'm also a passionate advocate of unschooling, especially radical unschooling, and believe whole-heartedly that unschooling is THE best option. Oh, and even among unschoolers, and among most people really, I often feel radical, and kind of out of place, because of my political (or lack thereof) views and general world outlook.

Some interesting articles I've come across recently...

The Wisdom of Hunter-Gatherers is a wonderful, short article on how children in hunter-gatherer societies learn.

Whatever Happened to Mother? Is an absolutely WONDERFUL story of the vanished mothers of old. Not wonderful as good, since it's incredibly sad, but wonderfully written. I love how it's literally written as a story. There are actually multiple 'Chapters… Continue
