Looking Closer

I was just wading through some posts from my other blog and saw an old post that I like. I thought this would be a good place to share.

Organized Chaos
(10/07)

To some, this may seem like a bunch of toys thrown haphazardly around the room. I admit, sometimes it takes a lot of internal fortitude to just go with it!

The Easy Way

I have been thinking a lot about our parenting choices lately. Specifically, I have been thinking about a conversation I had with a friend last year. She and I don't really get to talk much anymore. We are not as close as we once were...but I love her dearly.

After years of closeness, the differences in our parenting choices became like the proverbial elephant in the room. No longer was it as easy to always agree to disagree. At long last we were realizing that some of our choices were making i… Continue

Mad enough to spit...

Today the kids and I were walking home from the beach when an older man down the street asked "How was the water?"
I replied "Too cold for me, but the kids loved it."
His response? "Well, they're kids. Kids don't know any better."

I thought Drue was gonna spit, she was so mad!

The silver lining...it was a great jumping off point for some interesting discussions!

A Stumble from Grace (not quite a fall yet) (by Drew)

Since my oldest daughter was two years old, she has been convinced that she is "Super Drue," in disguise. She is right of course. In fact, we are a family of superheroes. At one point we trained regularly in the backyard. I always enjoyed playing the double role of "Super Dad," as well as all of the evil villains. Over the years, I have gathered quite a number of "Super Dad" t-shirts, a hat, and some wonderful memories.

After countless adventures, my secret identity has become something of a ma… Continue

what does "radical unschooling" mean to you?
For me, unschooling is about letting go of the old ideas that don't work for us. It's about questioning our reasons for doing the things we do. It's putting our family first. We are learning together everyday, and in every way. We spend our time together because we like each other. Its about following our passions and being true to ourselves.
how long have you been unschooling or homeschooling?
Since our oldest was born 9 years ago. (Only we didn't realize it until later)!
names and ages of children
(Daughter) Drue is 10 years old.
(Son) Declan is 8 years old.
(Daughter) Maeve is 5 years old.
a little about me
I am living my dream life by the ocean with my best friend, and three great kids. We love the beach, nature, gardening, camping, eating, and playing. Life is good.

Hi Jean,
Thanks for checking it out for me,I am sure there are many other's out there who will benefit from reading her words:-)
Leting Emily know that Drue was working on a package for her brought a big smile to her face. She has put up a corkboard with all the pictures on and also has one on her desk in her room. I will try to get a photo to let Drue see.Things have been a little subdued at present as we have both had colds/coughs and are having trouble shifting them on there way!! On the bright side it has meant lot's of cuddles and reading and lot's of films and telly:-)xx
