Jodie replied to Lauren Fisher's discussion Does embracing unschooling philosophy also mean that we can reject labelling our children?
"===It's better in the absence of school and "special needs programs" or "special needs designations" or "special needs funding," to say "She has special needs."  But y'know what?  Everyone…"

Jodie replied to Lauren Fisher's discussion Does embracing unschooling philosophy also mean that we can reject labelling our children?
"I've pondered this myself as both of our children have "labels". Our daughter has more severe medical issues, so I'll start with her, and yes it's easier in public to just say "she's special…"

Profile Information

what does "radical unschooling" mean to you?
Allowing your children to learn and grow in a natural, nurturing environment. I'm not sure we are fully radical unschooling yet. We are working on peaceful parenting and transitioning!
how long have you been unschooling or homeschooling?
Homeschooling for 4yrs, this is our 2nd yr of unschooling.
first names of children
Jude- 10
Lainey- 6
a little about me
I've been married for 11 yrs to my love and best friend, Chad. Our children both have special needs, Jude's are less severe whereas Lainey's are more extensive. We love teaching our kids acceptance of all people. I am very much a planner and like structure but my children do not learn and thrive in that type of environment and unschooling seems natural. We are compromising with my need of planning and the children's need of freedom. It's a learning process for us all!
