"What a timely discussion to pop up (after many months at rest)! My husband and I, just last night, were talking about the differences and similarities between the internet and univerity libraries for doing research and learning about new things. It…"

"My y husband has been playing music here (WCU parties, O'Malley's etc) for years so he loves the area. I went to UNCA and moved her about 6 months ago when we decided to relocate from A'ville. How old is your toddler? Mine is 2 1/2."

"I went to h.s. at Smoky Mtn, WCU my freshman year, and then away for five years for college and travel. My husband and I moved back here in 2005. How about you? How long have you been here/what brought you here?"

Profile Information

what does "radical unschooling" mean to you?
I'm very new to the whole concept of radical unschooling, but it fits with ways I've already been thinking. I love having alternatives to punishments and rewards, I love being encouraged to joyfully serve my family, and I think the neatest thing about all of this is the emphasis on having real, deep, meaningful relationships with my children. My husband and I have been practicing on each other for years now, and I'm so happy to be given the tools to relate better to my children than the tapes in my head would have me!
how long have you been unschooling or homeschooling?
My daughter is 18 months old and number two (boy or girl?) is due in May. I'd say I've been unschooling since my daughter was born. She certainly learns so much every day without my having to "teach" her anything.
first names of children
Oliva-born 8/15/07
Martha or Walter (we'll see!) due 5/19/09
a little about me
My husband and I are living in the mountains of NC. He is a classical and jazz guitarist, and has just applied to graduate school for music.

We are active in our church and have found a wonderful supportive, non-judgemental community there that has filled our lives with such meaning.

Once I graduated from college we traveled around a bit (including four months in Russia), and then we started working toward being in a place to start a family.

I LOVE being a mom and doing what it takes to really make a home run, and live my life. I feel like I spent way too long living in the standard of go to school, get a degree, make money, buy stuff, which I never really wanted to do. Now I've become a pretty good knitter, learned how to spin wool, love to cook healthy food, read all the time, and play.

We're in the Rolling Green neighborhood near WCU. My brother graduated from UNCG - music major.
