Helping him recognize his behavior is a great step and asking him for solution ideas is wonderfully proactive and places the ownership with him. We've got two gamers and in the early days, we would have to point out disrespectful behavior post pl...

No, he doesn't get asked to stop the video game... he turns it off himself. Yeah, the fighting with his sister is realy a "not listening to her no's" ,but it seems to always happen after the overstim game time.. we've talked today about all the op...

Ok,so my son is still in the "gorging" stage with video games. I am happy he's become immersed in Lego Star wars, and always happy when he and his Dad play together cause they have a blast! Our issue is this: whenever he comes off the playstation ...

Profile Information

what does "radical unschooling" mean to you?
Being strong in our own lives and our own families to be "radical" and ignore the "common" wisdom...to believe in ourselves and our kids and follow our own paths.
how long have you been unschooling or homeschooling?
Well...we've been doing what I call "flip-flop" homeschooling since my oldest was born in 2002. I would be an unschooler, until stress or doubt crept in, and then I would "flip-flop" and start forcing "schoolwork" again... then, realize it didn't work and try unschooling again. Last year, we went 100% unschooling.
names and ages of children
Leif (boy, pronounced Lay-f), 6 years old. Right now into Star Wars, Star Wars Legoon the playstation2, the environment, leapster, CHESS, and pc games. Has the greatest sense of humor!
Winter (girl) 4 years old..into fairies, princesses, and artwork. Sings lovely little songs and tells stories at the drop of a hat. Answers to the name Silvermist, Tinkerbell, and occasionally meow-meow!
a little about me
I'm 34. I'm an old school punk type (ramones, ramones, ramones), who also likes opera, adores musical theater and worships the vocal harmonies of ABBA. I've worked on a farm, been an esthetician, makeup artist, visual display, massage therapist, actor, and a myriad of other temporary "careers". I'm still waiting to find out what I'll be when (or if) I "grow up"- but I'm quite content being a sahm! I dream of doing the rv thing, since I'm a nomad at heart! The really hard part of unschooling in my life has been me! We attended Live and learn for the first time this year and were so shy, overwhelmed- (and sick) that we really felt like the whole trip was a disaster! I had a lot of my comfort levels pushed and challenged, however, which has made me "come around" on the video game issues I had before! So, I'm re-committing to my kids, my life, and radical unschooling. Please be gentle with me, I'm still learning!
