I am looking to see who would be interested in an unschooling conference in Lancaster County this fall. Right now I am looking at some outdoor locations that will offer some programs, as well as a place that has enough room for speakers, workshops, etc..

Before I forge ahead, I am looking to see if there is an interest in this.

There will be ongoing activities for all aged children/teens, fun trip ideas, museum displays, speakers, workshops, creative kids sale (free space with any paid admission to the conference), barter table, give and take table, and more! There also will be an option to camp. Food will be available throughout the conference. Vegetarian options will be offered.

Please e-mail me at; iamhisservant4ever@yahoo.com
with any questions, and also interest, If you have an idea for a speaker, or workshop, and also if you have something to present, please let me know.

Thanks!!

Hi Lorrie! Thanks fo commenting on my page. Love your Pics! :0) I met Jody here on Radical Unschoolers and she sounds fabulous! That is so cool that your children are dating! How great would that be should they marry and raise unschooled children together! You and Jody would share grandchildren and being like minded, would be wonderfully supportive! Sadly both my older girls are married and engaged to young men who don't believe in homeschooling OR unschooling :0( They are super in every other way, but I can only pray they let their children be unschooled/homeschooled:0)

We have a room for rent in our 4 bedroom farmhouse in Leola (Lancaster County). We are looking to rent this as soon as possible.
It is roomy, with two windows that make the room very bright and airy. The house has a very large eat in kitchen, livingroom, den, bathroom, large wraparound porch, nice yard, great view, and is adjacent to an Amish farm. We have a dog and 2 kittens, so if you have any allergies we want you to know ahead of time.

The rent includes all utilities, WIFI, telephone, a private small fridge for your use, use of kitchen, and a few shared meals. There is cable television, but you would have to pay the charge to have it hooked up in your room, I am not sure what that would be, it is through Comcast.

We are looking for a non-smoker, and non-drug user(obviously :) ).
This would be perfect for a student going to college, work, or exploring this area. We are very close to Lancaster, Rte. 30, and Rte. 23.

We are a warm, loving unschooling family.

If you want to know more, or would like to see the room, etc., please e-mail me at;

Hi Lorrie! So sorry it took so long to get back to you! I went on a Homeschool fieldtrip with my little girls to Florida for about 2 weeks. We just got back yesterday on 1/30! :0) We are about an hour from Lancaster. One of my married daughters lives in Parkesburg which is only 15 minutes from Lancaster! Can we meet up one day. We could meet at the Red Lobster in Lancaster and have lunch and talk. How did you handle the Public School requirements? I do not want to report to our school district, I am in the process of telling them now and it is not going well. I might move to N.J. or just homeschol underground. Pa. is so annoying! Let me know if meeeting for lunch works for you!

Hi Lorrie,
Thanks for writing back!...we're in Worcester (Central MA) about an hour west of Boston. It's a big city, but lots of green area within and right outside.
I'll be in Philly in April with one or two of my kids for a work function...we've never been to Amish country but I'd love to visit. Who knows what the summer will bring?? Are you planning on going to the NE Unschooling Conference?
All the best,
Beth

I am interested in putting together an informal graduation/recognition ceremony to honor all who will be done with any kind of home school/unschool/cyber school education this year. My 17 year old unschooled daughter would like to be a part of a more recognition type of ceremony, and is not interested any kind of formal cap and gown graduation ceremony. This would be a very informal type of event. I am looking into speakers and trying to find the right one to fit into this kind of event. Parents will be asked to give their child their diploma, certificate, or anything they choose to commemorate that day. This would be held in Lancaster County, PA

It will be followed by a dance to celebrate everyone’s accomplishments. We will have a D.J., possibly an acoustic band in the beginning, and of course food and drinks!

I am looking into several affordable places. The Lancaster Central Park has caught my eye. They have an auditorium that we can use; Auditorium (seats 65) Up to 4-hour meeting **Note: The auditorium is equipped with four eight-foot tables, a public address system and a projection screen. An overhead projector and VCR/television may be available for a fee upon request.
Or if it was to be outdoors, and we can be fairly sure the weather will hold out, we can rent the Garden of Five Senses for 2 hours;
This lush ornamental garden features a patio and gazebo, which are ideal for weddings, picnics, and other private group functions. The patio can accommodate fifty people, and the gazebo’s surrounding lawn can accommodate over 100 hundred people.
This would fit more people and be a lot prettier of a setting.

After we can head over to Pavilion 21 for the rest of the evening festivities;
Pavilion #21

Here is the park website, and you can see more about each facility they offer;
http://www.co.lancaster.pa.us/parks/site/default.asp

This event will be a great way to acknowledge all that your children have done. The event is open to anyone that is moving ahead.
I really want to make this a fun and special time for all.

I have lots more ideas and plans, I will be glad to share them all if you will e-mail me, and let me know if you have a teen that would be interested in this.

Do you live in Pa? If so, did you unschool underground? I am going to unschool under SB 1421 The religious freedom protection act signed into law on 11/18/02. For my first 3 who have graduated I did all requirements of the Pa Homeschool laws, (Act 169). However for my 2 little girls, I don't want to have a secular school district over my Christian Unschool. Did either of your children head for college, or trade school? What are they up to these days? My oldest who is 25 is a senior loan officer and managing procesor of a mortgage co. my 2nd daughter is an Aesthetician, and my son is a hairdresser at a top salons in our area. I'm curious what your unschoolers are up to. Thanks!-BetteAnne

Well, if you are ever over this way, feel free to let me know. We'd be happy to hang out/meet up or even put you up for a night or two if you want to spend some time in the city. We're always up for having guests.

what does "radical unschooling" mean to you?
It is a lifestyle we have been living since my kids were born. Every moment in life is a "learning" experience. I never used to tell people we "unschooled" because it wasn't something anyone in the area we live in did, and it was hard enough moving to an area where nothing a little "different" seemed to be accepted. Now I regret not saying that we unschooled from the beginning. I now no longer care what anyone thinks of me, my views, or what I believe. As my kids were growing up I instilled it into them not to care what anyone thinks of them, and to be the person that they want to be, not who anyone thinks they should be. It is way past due for me to practice what I preach!!
how long have you been unschooling or homeschooling?
For the past 16 years.

I have received a call from Circle M ranch. Our reservations cannot be held much longer due to the fact that no one has booked a unit or campsite for the October 1st-3rd Class is Canceled ….forever conference.

I may have to make this into a one day event, and have everything at Lancaster County Central park. In the beginning most were showing an interest in it being a longer event, and also in staying over at Circle M. I am pretty sure that it Circle M has a two night minimum. The prices I q

Draaaaammmmmaaaa......ugh!

I have learned over the years that no matter what you do with your kids; homeschool, unschool, cyber school, public school.....DRAMA.....still ends up creeping into your home. It is inevitable. I had hoped that my kids would be immune to the drama that I saw in most of their friends lives. But no, it has reared it's ugly head here, on more then one occasion.

My son is now 24, and is pretty much past being caught up in any drama. He has always kind of just let everything roll off of his shoul

Bloom where you are planted???

Bloom where you are planted. How many times have you seen or heard this phrase? I would love to change this saying, which I have tried my best to live by, to; bloom wherever you are planted.

After years of trying to bloom in an unfriendly environment, I really want to move on. My leaves are withered and my petals are just about gone. There has to be something better then this. A place where I want to thrive, want to care, want to make a difference, to allow the sunshine and fre
