Looking for suggestions/feedback!

Hey everyone!  I'm wondering if someone can tell me what RU looks like in New Hampshire (or any state with "home schooling" requirements)?  When we dove into this we were living in TX, which was great because it's a very free state in terms of having no testing or the like.  We came back to NH (having lived here previously) last summer and my son, who is 15 and started high school this year, went to public school in the fall because that's what he wanted at the time.  He now absolutely hates it…See More

Thoughts on unschooling and a "natural" life

Hey everyone!  I don't know if anyone is around here much these days...Seems pretty quiet!  But, for whoever may pop in now and then, I need to express some thoughts and hopefully get some feedback. As most of you know, an unforeseen event last summer threw us into a completely different lifestyle and all three boys went back to school this year.  My focus for this discussion is going to be my oldest, who is 15 and a freshman in high school. Here's the nutshell version:  he is already bored out…See More

a little about me
I am a mom to 3 boys and wife to Glenn for almost 19 years. We live in Texas, USA and are just beginning the real journey of "un-schooling" as we learn to let go and let learning happen naturally. We are a Christian family and while that plays prominently in our lives, I understand that people homeschool and UNschool for many, many reasons!

Church and the Christian unschooler

Posted on March 20, 2011 at 11:15am 5 Comments

I have been wondering again of late what position to take on our oldest son's aversion to attending church right now. He turns 15 this year. He is certainly at a point in his life where he needs to decide for himself what he believes and how to live that out. He does not take issue with Christianity, but rather "organized" church. I really do "get" him. Totally. My husband and I have struggled with church over the last 6 months ourselves, but have striven to continue to set a good example for… Continue

Still baffled...

Well I am more and more feeling that this is the only place on-line (with few exceptions) that I belong.  I just visited another home schooling site that I am a member of and came across, of all things, someone concerned about her FOUR-year old struggling with their well-known-brand of curriculum.  UGH!  All I could think was, just let him be a KID!  Why does someone feel that a child of that age needs to be completing X, Y and Z every day?!  Even in the states with the most strict home… Continue

Deschooling....

Wow.  I had an interesting thing happen to me the other day.  I subscribe to a great home schooling magazine, and have always looked forward to the next issue arriving.  The latest one came about 2 days ago, and I immediately opened it up, eager to read it cover-to-cover as I usually do.  Now, it's still a great magazine, and still chock full of articles and ideas and encouragement that I find valuable and useful in my own journey.  But then it started....All those neat, attractive, and… Continue

First Blog Entry

Wow, what an original title!  :p   Anyway, I'm going to give this blog a try.  I currently "own" three other blogs but they've all fallen by the wayside.  So sad.  :(   However I'm wanting to blog a bit re: our unschooling journey, and it feels "safe" to do so here.  Funny how when you first start homeschooling -- esp. if you've had your kids in school -- you feel like a bit of an outsider.  Then, when you move further into that fringe into unschooling (and Radical no…
