what does "radical unschooling" mean to you?
...living life as though there is no school; never having my family's life revolve around school, but revolve around itself and the community; getting to spend valuable time with my child and watching him learn freely every waking moment, without arbitrary limits or boundaries.
how long have you been unschooling or homeschooling?
since my son's birth
names and ages of children
Elijah Uriel, 5 (September 18th, 2003)
a little about me
I am married to William and we have one awesome son named Elijah. We moved from Oklahoma City, OK to Pittsburgh back in July of 2005. We live in Brighton Heights on the Northside of Pittsburgh, but we are awaiting the day that we can move out to Braddock or Wilkinsburg and start up an Urban Homestead.

I am a full-time homemaker and some-times homebirth midwife and William is a musician, but his day job at Trader Joe's is what pays the bills!

I have a blog I post about Anarchist Parenting, RUing and lots about our gardens!

Elijah is our 'sparkly' and sensitive boy. He enjoys building with
just about anything. He thrives in wide open spaces where he can run around. He says that he really likes all our Anarchist picnics and potlucks, because that's when all the kids get together and play for hours -- it's true. He says his favorite color *today* is purple or green and when you ask him what USing means to him, he says, "it means I can play whatever I want whenever I want to".

A relative asked Elijah if he wanted to ride on the school bus and he answered, "I already ride on the city bus and there are lots of 'schooly' kids on there"!

Where to find my blog

I am terribly lazy when it comes to having many different blogs...so, for now, I'll just direct you to my current blog.

nice to see you on here, too, though not surprising...
i keep shopping around for an internet home base for family type stuff, so hopefully this one will be interesting. probably, because i am an unschooling voyeur!

really, though, it's kinda funny to me to think of unschooling as something that magically starts at age 5, or even 3. (although i guess you have a better idea at that point that you're not going to suddenly stop)

Thanks! Same goes for you. If you and your family are ever going to be out this way, let me know. We would welcome you to stay anytime!

I know what you mean. I feel the same about everything out here. We have never quite fit in, and refused to become part of "cookie cutter" mindset that everyone seems to have here. If you aren't just like them, don't even bother!
We have friends in Beaver Falls, and they are seriously the only close friend we have in PA. Their being almost 5 hours away really sucks. I love Pittsburgh, we really enjoy the museums and downtown area there.

And I bet you are no where near me....lol. We are in Lancaster County. True unschoolers are no where to be found :(!

Hey, Michelle! Hi from Beaver Falls! How did you get together go you hosted a few weeks ago? I had to work, or I would have been there. Still looking to meet other US in pittsburgh with my 8yo son, and two teens. It would be great to network somehow.

Thanks for the invite! We are near da 'Burgh too! :) I love Trader Joes (the one in East Liberty by the Natural Stitches yarn store??? I love that store!). Your son sounds adorable--very cool. Thanks again!

Oops, what happened? Anyway, I personally would like to get together with other unschoolers, but my son doesn't generally like get-togethers with people he doesn't know well.
