Unschooling in NJ with hopes of moving to FL

Hello everyone. We live near Southern, NJ and my son is 7. We have a hard time with unschooling in our area as everyone seems to be into more traditional homeschooling and being on top of 'lessons' but we join internet social groups to be 'in touch' with our unschooling side.We really want to move to Central Florida and have been planning for years...trying to figure out which are is best, what we will do(entrepreneur-wise), etc. Any ideas on places you may be in the Central part where…See More

what does "radical unschooling" mean to you?: I follow the idea of 'learning all the time'. For my child there are no classrooms besides the world around us. We are always learning what he wants and how he wants to learn it. He is most interested in cooking, so that is what we do and if he learns something from it like science or math, then so be it. We just visited a culinary school to show him what a future in culinary arts could be like. He wants to know more about skateboarding, so I will help him find a skate park.

how long have you been unschooling or homeschooling?: Since 2006 when he was almost a year old I got the ideas from a great group of homeschoolers.

a little about me: I am a jill-of-all-trades mom who was not homeschooled but wish I had been. Sometimes I feel like I wasted time in school...but now that I know better, I want things to be different for my son. I want him to direct his learning. I am a travel consultant, web developer, art facilitator, entrepreneur... all without college( but I do have a Bachelors degree that is unrelated to any of those). But people should be open to whatever they need to get to where they want in life.
