Ok, to add to my own post. I found the last post amusing and decided to share it here - I've since found this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a1ThSi1wbqU and am considering rolling out my fathers old 9N Ford Tractor to start up a band.

Hi Mike- Come down and check out our group on Wednesdays - we've been meeting weekly since the spring. There have been unschoolers of one kind or another in the Ithaca area for a while - 15 years? The group of current unschooled teens is small and...

Cool! The tri-cities area is my favorite in TN (well duh, right?) because it's a lot cooler up here in the foothills of the Appalachians. It's also very close to Asheville which is another great place. The "tribe" here is amazing....we consider ma...

Thanks for the info. I may end up in Candor or Owego sometime in the future. I love it up there. I have to admit though, I'm not a fan of NY's tight laws (HS & vaccine). We'll see what my future holds. Maybe we'll see you up there someday. Thanks again, Sandra

Hi there,
We are from LI, but I have always wanted to move to Ithaca. We have family in Candor. How do you find the climate for RU in rural upstate. Sandra

Hey Mike - I've been chatting with Flo on this group since the conference and failed to realized we both had connections to the Finger Lakes area (I was in Ithaca from 1987 to 1993). It makes sense that Ithaca should have some unschoolers and I caught on Flo's "Good Vibrations" site that her friend Miranda Demarest is in Ithaca. I don't see Miranda on this NING group but perhaps Flo could connect you if you like. Just my 2 cents.

Good luck in your endeavors - moving, thriving, challenging, surviving, etc.

Best - Steve in Boise

Hi, Mike! I saw you at L&L but didn't have the chance to actually speak with you. (My husband Marc may have though.) I graduated from SUNY Oswego in '93. I actually have lots of history in your area, growing up in the Finger Lakes and my father's family being from the Ogdensburg area. Spent lots of time visiting Ontario Orchards on our way through for visits.

I saw your post about moving and looking for a tribe. We're in San Diego now and love our unschooling community. I posted about it on my blog recently: http://sumbthucker.blogspot.com/2008/09/tribal-love.html If you want more info on the area, let me know. I'm happy to help get you out of those nasty Lake Ontario winters. :)

Mike,

I'm very happy to hear y'all are doing well. Ronnie and I are still working out our own demons, schoolishness, etc., too. I think it's a neverending process. We were both so thoroughly schoooled it's a tough thing to completely get past.

The current economic mess is gonna be a terrible hit for everybody. Hope we (as a country) can make some progress on repairing things. Good luck to all of us in all respects!

See ya,

Frank
