Hello Natasha and welcome to the Radical Unschoolers Network. I hope you find this site to be useful and supportive.  I am living in Costa Rica and we too are committed to a self-sufficient way of life.  I have found this to be an ongoing learning experience (lots of successes and not working out experiences ) and have found for us here, that we depend a lot on our community to be "self"-sufficient.:) I don't have cold winters to contend with, just too much rain and insects. Again, welcome and good luck.
