what does "radical unschooling" mean to you?

To me it means to learn by doing. By living. I feel that the unnecessary pressure of the public school system actually makes it impossible for many kids to learn, and that unschooling is one way to tap into our children's natural curiosisty to foster a love of learning, and not just a memorization of facts.

how long have you been unschooling or homeschooling?

We have been homeschooling since 2007. We did make one final attempt at public schooling last year(long story), but it is not for us.

a little about me

I am a homeschooling mom, as well as an actess and an acting teacher. I have just started an acting program for homeschooler of all ages that will be held in SE Portland this fall. Because I was raised in the standard public school, our way or the highway mentality, I have to admit that it has taken me a little while to throw myself into the unschool world. And yet I see it working all around me, and I want to learn more for my son and even for myself. I definately believe that you never stop learning.
