I've done that with things I thought the kids might fight over, and with one set of Ninja Turtles I wanted to buy that were especially cool. They're still in Kirby's things, but if he had played too roughly with them I could've said "Hey, those ar...

Maybe practice things he could say when he's frustrated. Suggestions might help. I was asked a similar question recently and said think of it as being on the same team as your child. If someone on your team "commits a foul," it's bad for the team...

Thank you for the comment on my blog. You really, really pointed out a few things I should have mentioned. You also helped me emphasize on my irrational aspects--kind of "brought me to my senses." But I guess I'm quite the product of the "mainstream teens" you mentioned. I know, unfortunately. Hey, who says I'm not working on it?

Really, thanks. A worthwhile discussion. I have a hard time dealing with people seemingly angry at when I said, but this one had my interests. I (and the ones commenting) seemed more human talking online, saying whatever is on the mind and not getting a "nod, nod, mhm-hmm" response.

Teresa, Jill Parmer asked me that in last Monday's chat, and I wrote sometihng and saved it. I'll look for that and patch it up and post it on the page with the sound file. I'll leave a note here when I do (probably post it here too, in the forum, so people can comment).

Sandra, I just listened to your piece on the Sandi Schwartz show, and you mentioned the parallels between the women's movement and the homeschooling movement. This is intriguing, and I'd love to know more. Would you be willing to share your thoughts?

I am soooo not a celebrity kind of person, but... wow. I am new to this site, but the impact your personal website has had on me and my family is amazing <3 Thank you <3 I am excited to find another one of your outlets, so I can read even more of your stuff :)

I went to your site and so far have read your thoughts on bribery, boredom, checklists, choices, definitions and fighting. It all looks really good to me. This is exactly what I thought radical unschooling was.

Profile Information

what does "radical unschooling" mean to you?
Learning always in all ways, learning how to make choices by making choices, and living whole lives in the real world.
how long have you been unschooling or homeschooling?
My children are 22, 20 and 17 and have never been to school, so all of Holly's life and most of Kirby's (since he turned five).
names and ages of children
Kirby Dodd 22
Marty Dodd 20
Holly Dodd 17
a little about me
I used to be a teacher, which was what I had wanted to be since I was six years old. I taught Jr. High English for six years and retired. :-)

I didn't plan to have children. Kirby was on his way as an "oops" (we were married, but undecided about children), and then we LOVED being parents so much that if we had started earlier in life we would have had more than three.

I live in New Mexico and have since I was nearly seven, and I love it completely. (This used to say "nearly six" but it was a fumble, and I've corrected it. We moved in early June and I turned seven in late July.)
