So frustrated with extended family

So, my sister in law is getting involved with my family, after 9 years of noncommunication. Her main focus? My 9 year olds education. Or in her thinking, lack of education. She will be here in August, just in time to FORCE MY son to go to school. She's gotten my mother in law involved and she, in turn, has been "working" on my husband to get him to talk to me about getting Dan into public school.Dan doesn't WANT to go to public school and I don't want the drama we've had before with him in…See More

Sean is 12, outgoing, book reading, trumpet player and going to public school this next school year per his request. He's going to be attending a school that works more with the arts so he can improve on his trumpet playing. Danyl is my quiet, shy, homebody that hates going anywhere without me. I have had Dan doing online school for three years and…See More

My take on schooling

Posted on June 6, 2012 at 1:03pm 2 Comments

Well, for my first post, I thought I would put out there our feelings on schooling and unschooling.

Mike (my dear hubby) and I were surprised to have our little bundles join us on this earth. When the eldest started school, he went to public school and seemed to be ok. When the youngest started, he immediately had difficulty. From the first week, he begged to be homeschooled.

We stuck to our guns and made him go to school. In first grade, he had to be carried to the…

Sheila, I just got back into my unschooling profile and missed the emails. I am so sorry - my boys would love to play Minecraft with your kids.  We don't have or use Skype, but they can play online. I know Jolon my oldest is on the XBox playing and Kellen my youngest plays on the computer.

I just read you profile and it's amazing the similarities between our lives. Jolon refused to go to school in 2009 due to issues with kids not playing with him; every day was a nightmare of screaming, fighting, bribery and everything to get him to school.  We finally took them out in May of 2010 and what a great decision that was!! We will have to connect sometime and share our stories - I thought for the longest time I was the only one but, suffice to say I have seen a lot of parents who homeschool go through what I went through.
