I'm always hopeless at spotting "connections' as people like to talk about on unschooling lists, but had a beauty yesterday.

It started with Tombliboo (2 years 2 months) watching Little Einsteins (repeatedly) for several hours...this boy watches more dvd's than any 2 year old I… Continue

J-Man is 10!

Our gorgeous boy is now 10 years old...where did that time disappear?

He said he had the "best day ever...well, apart from one of course"...that's the day he was born, nothing compares to that :0)

It started quite late, which was good- gave me some time to g… Continue

Choosing School...Part 2

I have been busy trying to think through the logistics of having a school-child in an unschooling family. The speed at which Tombliboo walks (or rather "makes stops") will practically make it so that by the time we get home from walking J-Man to school, it will be time to start walking back!

Well, not quite...but it isn't a very thrilling prospect. I can see me suggesting he takes his bike fairly quickly, though I doubt it would be safe.

So, I tried to phone the Ministry of Education to let th… Continue

Choosing School, Part 1

J-Man dropped a bomb on me a few days before Christmas...he wants to try school.

I panicked inwardly, but hope I remained calm outwardly.

We discussed it a little, but I knew I would support this choice just as I have supported his desire to learn karate or guitar (both very short-lived).

There was little to do about it so close to s… Continue

Natural Learning

We went to see Wall-E...it was fun, well not really for Tombliboo (22 months) - but the rest of us enjoyed it.

At one point, he and EVA were floating in space, and J-Man (9) asked, "What is that Mum? Is it a vortex?" (Eeek, I have no idea!)

I had no idea...then Princess (6) said, "No it's a galaxy- the Milky Way, I think."

But how did she know? I am reasonably certain I have never even mentioned it (feeling suddenly like there are a million things I haven't mentioned and should have).

"How d… Continue

My girls know how early it begins, because they had an early doctor's appointment once and I pointed out to them that if they went to school they would have to get up that early every day. As we were on the way home, about lunch time, we passed the school and I mentioned that if they'd gone to school instead of the doctor they would still be at school for several more hours....they couldn't imagine it; they were almost asleep by that time. lol

That's the same way I feel about mine...my oldest says she may try high school someday, but for now she's content to stay at home and sleep in. lol

My youngest doesn't want to be away from me more than an hour or two, so I don't see her going any time soon, either. ; )

I told them today if they didn't stop picking at each other I just might take them down to the school and enroll them, and Emma (my oldest) said, "But how long could *you* stand it?" lol She knows me too well. ; )

Hey Shell,

I recognize you from AU. I was reading your post about how you assuming good intent and apologizing to your son led to him playing with his sister in a much happier way. Also how you don't really want to post about their issues lest they haunt you. I was just nodding my head!! I have a 9 and 5 yr old having a really hard time together and I would love to talk off list with you. I'm at g dot c dot 321 at shaw dot ca if you ever want to chat...

Hey L,

We're back and it seems like a lifetime since we were w/ you guys. We had such a great time hanging out. So sorry we couldn't do it more. We've got some pix I'll send. Say hi to everyone from us.

So cool to have friends all over.

Thanks for your kind words! He has always loved to draw, even did a magic marker mural on his bedroom wall at age 2. You could see flowers and trees, people, animals. Quite amazing...our landlord wasn't happy...LOL He is really into drawing robots and trying out Manga now.

Amazing all the things you have done with Princess. We do WOW too! (if he is ever looking for someone lower level to hang out with...I have only been playing a couple months when I can...but it is fun). All my kids and my DH play too. We have 2 accts and lots of characters--5 people playing various ones. That way we can play together too.

Cool, I need another dvd, just watched The Edukators today...it was quite good. Seeing your blog makes me think I need more fun in our life! Inspiring for me! Your children look so happy, healthy and loved, clearly unschooled! :) Ruth
