what does "radical unschooling" mean to you?
It's about respecting and accepting where your kids are now. It's about knowing that everyone counts. And that just because some folks are younger, doesn't mean they don't deserve to be treated as equally important individuals. I'm still aspiring to embrace this and have it work for our family.
how long have you been unschooling or homeschooling?
Since my kids were born.

a little about me
I'm into lots of different things but tend to focus on one thing at a time--like WOW or gardening, or crafting or reading, or catching up on TiVo'd tv shows. :) I like to try new crafts and sports and activities, never sure what will keep my interest. Look, sparkly things!

Carnival of Homeschooling

I am hosting this week's carnival at my blog, come check it out! http://pomoyemu.blogspot.com . I think that it would be great to have more unschooling posts show up on this carnival. It tends to be rather traditional homeschooling posts. But a lot of people read it, so it's a nice easy way to "advertise" about unschooling. Get them intrigued. :)

Putting your RSS feed on your page from your main blog

I hope this will help!

If you go to your "my page" tab, then click My Page again--next to My Friends and My Blog, below the main bar with all the other choices (invite, members, etc), below "My Discussions," there is something you can do to add an RSS feed. I chose to put my own blog (from Blogger) in as the RSS feed, but you could add anyone's, really. I'm not sure what it looked like when I first created my page, but I haven't messed around with moving any of the widgets, so they're all where… Continue

Yes, I did a tad bit in the Army...and met Jeff there...

Also, Beth is only my Sis via bond, not biologically...she is just so amazing. :)

How are you doing?!

I just noticed you left another comment for me that I never saw! Sorry! I'm glad Jonathan and Thomas hit it off, and that Jonathan's wild, uninhibited free spirit rubbed off on Thomas in a good way! Sometimes that's all it takes - the safety of a friend. You can certainly 'borrow' Jonathan sometime.. but be careful what you wish for - he's got the traveling bug and may just say "how soon can you be ready for me?" :-)

No, he doesn't. I should ask him if he's interested. He had a lot of fun with Thomas! I'm so glad they hit it off!

I learned to needle felt by asking the fabulous Julie Persons (http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=44218) about it, looking at all the amazing things people make and sell on etsy, and doing a lot of poking :o). Basically it's just stabbing loose roving over and over and over again with a barbed needle while shaping it with your fingers. All you need is some roving, needle felting needles, and a piece of foam to work on.

Carol just emailed me and said Hey, they're talking about you on the UWWG yahoo list! lol

I'm still giving it thought about whether we are going or not. What type of room arrangements did you pick? Is your dh coming with you or are you planning to make the trek as a trio?

I did a quick google maps calculation and you are about equal distance (approx 2-3 hrs) from me, the Va Beach area, and NOVA people. People living closer to NC or TN may have a bit farther to drive, but I do think your area is the best spot to gather (at least geographically speaking). So what are some possibilities near you? It'd be great to have it be an overnight at least, otherwise it's a lot of driving to pack in for a one day thing.

And yes -- we want inexpensive, too! Especially if we hope to do this on a regular basis, it needs to be affordable for a wide-range of families. Of course we'd love to go to a place like GWL, but that is more on a vacation-level expense for us than just a weekend get together, kwim?
