I've been a single parent, and I'm an unschooler -- but not at the same time. I've known a couple of single unschooling Moms in my local community (one widowed, one never married) and a few more online. From what I've seen, those who manage to co...

I'm not sure what comprises the fog in your head, but a few thought occur to me. I haven't found that being an only necessarily means a child will grow up without consideration for others, nor does having siblings guarantee a child will be more g...

Janis, have you looked for local unschoolers to hang out with? I don't know what groups may be near you, but I know there are lots of unschoolers in the SoCal area. Having a community of like-minded friends for our family is an amazing resource. T...

My kids are kinder and more thoughtful To Me when I've been supportive of them. I couldn't agree more with this, Meredith. Every day I'm on this amazing journey, I'm learning a little more, and I think just about the most important thing I've exp...

I wondered what that meant, too. I've seen many people use Autism labels as the reason unschooling *won't work* for a particular child, or maybe even for the entire family. I agree that there can be times when a child's particular needs result in...

I've run into a lot of unschoolers whose kids likely would end up on the spectrum, if tested and diagnosed. I have one who would. If the online screening tests I've seen are any indication, I fall somewhere on the autism spectrum. Really, for me, ...

Aloha Sylvia~
It wasn't me that you met. We are in N Kohala (Hawi, Kapa;au) district about 1 hour out of Kona near Pololu Valley. I would be more than happy to meet and get to hang out with other unschoolers on our home turf! Unfortunately your visit will be right at Little League All Star tournament time where DS will be playing, DH will be coaching and I will be scorekeeping, as well as final long course island wide swim meet for DD! Yikes! We'll be on the road as none of these events will happen in our little area. But who knows? Keep in touch as your visit gets closer - maybe a picnic en route or something like that would work. I'd enjoy meeting you~

Good Morning! Thanks for stopping by my blog. I don't really pay much attention to Hollywood folks so I appreciate the note about 'New Village Leadership Academy in California.' Talk to ya later! Have an awesome day.

Sylvia,
I loved your topic about guiding kids to manners and I love that it brought so much conversation to the table. It needed to be talked about and I am so glad a strong and open minded woman like yourself, led the group. Some of these discussions get heated. You are a great moderator!

I am loving this place! Such a good distraction from the bookkeeping work I can't manage to concentrate on (part of my chemo-brain problem).
