My ds is also four, and I've noticed a huge increase in his ability to cope with change and his self-control as he approaches five (which will be next month). We also have done alot of talking with him about how to ask for things, and how to talk ...

Your post was long, so I'm not replying to every question. I just wanted to share a story (to give background, we've been radically unschooling for about 1.5 years, my two boys are Deacon, almost five and Evan, three). Several days ago, I was jus...

Scooby Doo is one of my 3-yr-old's favorite shows. But the people doing the scaring are usually criminals, and from my perceptions it's not seen as ok in the show that they did it. Maybe I haven't watched the right series, as there are several. He...

I wanted to jump in and say that I have two boys, 3 and 4 (he would probably like me to add that he'll be 5 in a month!). So I understand the two posts above! My older son is also very senstive, and my younger one tends toward being very physical,...

I personally always post questions on Sandra's list, because I welcome the questioning of my attitudes! How else would I grow as a person? And I simply cannot describe how my joy and laughter and fun we have in our days since I worked on letting ...

Profile Information

what does "radical unschooling" mean to you?
Everybody working and having fun together, with any problems dealt with as collaboratively as possible. As parents, we try to be leaders in our family but not controllers, and facilitate our children's desires as much as possible. We also enjoy learning and growing with them!
how long have you been unschooling or homeschooling?
One year unschoolers
names and ages of children
Deacon, 4
Evan, 2
a little about me
I'm originally from Washington state, but lived for 7 years in England, and then 2 in Nebraska, where my husband is from. My favorite thing to do is read and when I get a moment I like to play World of Warcraft with my husband. I also like baking, especially bread and cookies, which rarely last more than a day! I'm also really interested in all the many different variations of religion, and love discussing it with random strangers at the bookstore where I work. My husband Andy is a coffee roaster, when he's not playing WOW ;).

Hi Trisha,
We are in Port Townsend.
I would love to connect sometime. I am looking for libraries to read my book. Would you be interested in that? It would be in November or later.
Otherwise, let me know if you are headed up this way!
Smiles,
Rain

I'm going to try and make it! My husband did lose his job last week so we've been a little depressed around here. We could use a day out though. I might bring my hubby so I can visit easier. I have blondish hair and 3 very tall kids. My daughter (9) has curly hair and my 4 year old son has light blond hair. We should be pretty easy to spot too. Oh and our silver van still has Texas plates. See you then!

My husband has a meeting in the morning with HR (we're a little panicked!) so the outcome will probably dictate the rest of our day. I'll know by noon if we are going to head for park day. If not tomorrow we can go next week. Looking forward to meeting you and your kiddos!

Yes, it's pretty cool. :) There are parents and kids all in the guild. You can always start a character over there if you want--just be sure it's horde!

So, tell me all about Andy and his roasting--does he roast for himself or someone else's company? You mentioned wanting to open a shop...I have my two roasters at my house, so I can roast from home and hang out with the kids, and then I sell at two farmers markets, do mail order, and deliver. I am amazed that there are more than one of us, too!!!!
